i know snow tires on my evo will give me awesome snow handling but anyone have experience with all-season instead? is it sufficient for careful and conservative snow driving?

Ys Mif,,,, I meant all season tires... call Neal at tire rack.

Conti xtereme contact are all season,,, I cant see that a full out winter tire could do any better than this tire, since any more snow and you will be plowing with your intercooler.

And sorry for jacking this thread.

Conti Extreme all seasons and 3-5 inches last night..

THIS CAR IS AWESOME in the SNOW!!

Not trouble passing up people on the right doing 15-20 MPH more..

it is a FUN car to drive in the bad weather!! (with the right tires obviously)

No need for snows on this car unless you are in serious snow country..

Hmmm..Plowing through with my intercooler..

I better look at the front end!!

Unhappy G*d Damnit...!!!

I just wrecked my VR4 a couple days ago. I hit black ice and lost control. Can't have fun in the SNOW now.

Don't mean to hijack thread.

I have driven every one of my cars through winter without winter tires or even all seasons. It may not be the safest thing to do, but it can be done. You just need to make sure you don't go boosting crazy. I am driving the Evo now with stock tires in the snow. It sucks, but its manageable.

Well certainly becuase this is an important part of ANY drive system..I mean, right?

I am driving the Evo now with stock tires in the snow. It sucks, but its manageable.
Okay, now here is why the tires are important becuase not only is this dude nuts, but he is driving proof that the AWD system ain't all of it..

I mean..right??

How would he explain this "incedent"..AWD System or tires??

What about driver? or maybe meteor.. there is more to the equation than AWD/non-AWD and Advans/non-Advans.

My old 1990 BMW E30 325iX had visous diffs front and rear. The consensus seems to be that visous diffs work better in slippery conditions whereas clutch-type diffs work better in the dry.

I've been driving my Evo in Montreal for the last few weeks in everything from deep, fluffy snow to wet slush to freezing rain and ice. I've had no traction issues whatsoever. Of course, I have fitted proper snow tires! The Evo is much more fun to throttle steer through the slippery stuff than my old understeering 325iX.

Amen to that! When will people learn? Tires are BY FAR the most important factor when it comes to handling.

I believe that we were talking about the TECHNOLOGICAL and MECHANICAL attributes and factors..

Not human error and space oddities ..

**** guys, I went out to inspect my FILTHY car and low and behold I fricken CRACKED the lower bumper by the intercooler..

This is what happens when you think you can drive through any snow condition because of good tires and a good all wheel drive system...

YOU FORGET ABOUT LOW BODY PARTS LIKE A SPOILER!!!

and an intercooler..

AHHHHHHH

I am so dumb..I haven't really inspected the front thoroughly cuz it's been like 10 below in Milwaukee, but I think a car wash and closer inspection is in order..

I'm worried..

If the STI can lock the center I think it would do better in the snow.

Power transfer between front and rear can cause a vehicle to spin.

The STi, with an extra LSD and the locking center diff would without a doubt be better in the snow than the EVO. Heck, my wife's 2002 Dakota 4x4 actually has better traction in the snow (with the center diff locked and a rear LSD) than the EVO. But that's kind of splitting hairs, doncha think? I mean, if you can't drive this car in the snow, you shouldn't be driving a car period. Unless you're doing SnoCrosses (autocrosses on frozen lakes), you probable will never notice the difference anyway.

BTW, the EVO with Conti Extreme Contacts are an absolute BLAST to play with in the snow. Sorry about your front bumper guy! That really stinks.

I didn't see an answer to this in this thread. Does anyone know?
