smoking catch can?

so i have a build 2 liter running fp black and its losing oil all the time.
i noticed the other day that my catch can thats attached to back of the valve cover and on the side is smoking.
in another words, oil was burning inside the catch can.
is this normal? am i getting excess loss of oil? i do go through a quart of oil about every 5th gas fill up

That smoke is normal with any engine. If you take the oil cap off of any hot engine you will see that smoke. Built motors consume more oil than normal engines. Some more than others. If its more than 1qt per 1000 miles then thats probably a little excessive. Do a compression test to see how healthy the motor is.

Are you burning oil? do you have any blue smoke from exhaust? do a compression test and see where you stand your turbo can also be leaking oil through its seals.

Do a compression test. If its good then the smoke or steam is normal.

What would happen if there was slight amounts of smoke out of the exhaust?

If you are sure its smoke and not condensation from being cold then that's not good. Blueish smoke means you are burning oil. Black smoke means your engine is running too rich or dumping too much fuel.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I meant to ask, what if there was smoke coming out of the exhaust AFTER a hard pull in a gear. Not during.

After a ill is blow by. Either rings or bad valve seals.

Did you break in the engine when you got it back? Or did you start racing around after you got it back? I would do a running compression test and see what you get. That's a lot of oil loss.

Broke it in on the dyno. I doubt its bad rings or seals because i dont see any residue on the rear bumper. In addition, oil consumption is very low.

I would do a leak down test on your engine. That can also narrow down what might be the cause, if any, where the smoke is coming from.
