EVOs FS...cheaper in winter?
EVOs FS...cheaper in winter?
Its common knowledge that your going to get a better deal on a 4x4 truck in the summer time than when theres a foot of snow on the ground. And i know the same thing can be said about selling a sports car, in the summer you can ask the absolute most considering its prime time for driving, and NORMALLY you can get a better deal in the winter when your basically looking at garaging it until better conditions allow. I have been shopping for an EVO all summer and found that even 03's that book for 10-14k RETAIL will be asking anywhere from 16-20k... with 100k miles! which granted the evo is worth every penny but i mean come on, theres evo 9 mr's that list for 24k with only 50-75k miles. (i dont think this is unreasonable for a well kept properly functioning evo) but time is of the essence because i dont care if i had 40 grand i would buy a used evo 9 and send the motor to AMS to rebuild than go and buy a new evo X (my personal preference). but what im really trying to figure out and maybe evo veterans can help me but can i score an evo for cheaper in the winter or will they ask more because its AWD?
cheaper in the winter. and i DO NOT know why but a lot of evo owners store their evo's for the winter. what the heck is that crap. u bought the car to drive, not let it be a garage biatch. if u look for an evo in october or even november those are good months. dont look come march time. prices go up 3-5k easy. i've also seen owners with 100+k miles wanting 22k for their car and will not budge. i think thats out of hand there. to each their own.
i have bought many cars before in the past. from what i have learned, the best times to buy are december-january. typically, prices on all cars are much lower than of the same car sold in the spring, summer.
thats just something i have noticed. i may be wrong on a larger scale

i still check everyday. i got aol autos, yahoo autos, car.com, carsforsale.com, oodle.com, cardomain.com, modifiedcartrader.com, vast.com, lemonfree.com, on refresh every hour on the hour so when a good deal comes ill be there, but thanks for your input guys. &im from CT and we have TERRIBLE winters, i fully intend on ripping through the snow. I can understand why some might garage them (the road salt up here DESTROYS cars, PERIOD.) i actually sell dodges and chryslers for a living, so im pretty familiar with rusted buckets

it really depends on the evo to be honest i would not consider lower then 28k for mine then again it has a ton of custom 1 off parts and lays down serious power i never use. paying anything more then 14k for a evo over 100k miles is crazy stupid already time to get the motor inspected at that point in time but to each his own

I agree with you 100% bro! I guess I should be smarter and wait for the december-january.
Just want to add even though this thread was just added, I love it because everything that is being said and asked is exactly what I was thinking and wondering for a longggg time. I don't understand why a 03 evo sells for 16k with 100k+ miles and I agree with what the op said if I have 40k I would but a evo 9 and modded it rather than buy a evo 10. just random stuff but I had to get it off my chest lmao.

i don't think the demand for evo's drops in the winter, therefore the prices don't drop. winter has no effect on the car in general. not a convertible, not rwd, not a coupe, etc. i think there might be less buyers in general in the car market during the winter, but then again, all you need is that 1 right customer to get her sold.
Winter time'ish is generally cheaper even at dealerships because you get all sorts of discount for the end of the year but private parties just want them sold to pay stupid bills and also want to get rid of cars for some spare "christmas time money." I have read about it in some magazine, do not remember which one it was but it was a study stating that with some statistical proof.
i sell cars for a living and am more than aware of the market trends. the whole car business in general right now is just in the toilet. Used cars expecially. If you have a mint 2006 evo 9 mr, with anywhere from 10-20k ORIGINAL miles, stock or not, then by ALL means, go ahead and ask a price in the same neighborhood of a brand new X. But these guys with 03's and 04's with 90-120k that just put in an air filter and a turbo timer and MAYBE stayed on a routine maintanence scheudale, asking in the low to mid 20's... your off your rocker. NADA (YES the ACTUAL book value guide that BANKS use, not KBB) will tell you that an 03 with 15k ORIGINAL miles that sat in fort knox for the past 7 years would only book for 16k. & lets face it, how many evo buyers have 20k CASH to just throw at a car? be understanding that we have to take out loans to afford these cars just like everyone else, if your really an evo enthusiest then you should be able to respect any other person with the same interest. For you to sell me an 03 with 100+k miles for anything over 10k is ludacris. Evos are amazing cars, period. But to pay anywhere from 4-7 years for a car that you most likely brought to the track and launched more times than u can remember, and put "IMMACULATE, THE CLEANEST EVO YOUVE EVER SEEN" on your ad then your just killing the community, because chances are the person who finally buys that evo has probably little to no options since they are considering one so old with so much wear, just to say they drive one. which you have to respect because at one time that was us... everyone on this site should remember the first time they saw an evo and said "wow, THAT is what i want to drive every single day" I guess all im trying to say is dont pass off your evo to someone whos new in the game, because most likely all they will need is a few bad experiences until they switch to a subaru, or bmw. Which might on a grander scale might be the difference between mitsubishi keeping the evo or turning it into a prius.

my 05 ssl evo 8 with 72k miles barely books for under 20k, plus i would take a boosted bmw over a evo anyday and i daily drive my evo, but im not trying to start **** or anything just my opinion
