Evo 9 turbo upgrade, now car smokes badly

I just got done upgrading my evo 8 to evo 9 turbo and while I was at it did a ported manifold, and map o2 housing. Got the car on the road no tune yet, but under slight boost this thing is puffing smoke like crazy out the exhaust, mostly blue smoke. Tell me the turbo I bought off another forum member is Blown? Im not out ripping the car cause I know not to play around yet but i hit little boost by accident and saw the smoke so did it a few more times to see if something needed to burn off but nope this things burning oil for sure. Any input appreciated.

Hate to say it but if it wasn't with your stock turbo and is now it's not looking good for your 9 but maybe try swapping back to the 8 and looking for the smoke if there isn't any then the 9 is bad its a pain to do but you will know right away

Yea def didnt with the 8 turbo in, Im just trying to rule out everything before I waste all that time and money again. I heard people talk about having burn off issues after doing leakdown tests and whatnot so I'm thinkin bout maybe driving it for awhile to see if Im havin a similar issue, plus the smoke has a really weird smell, not like burnt oil but a mix of something else hard to describe.

Oil is showing no signs of coolant, and I doubt the headgasket went while the car was sitting getting worked on, im gonna go buy oil in the morning find an empty road and see if i can burn it off, if not, turbo is prob no good.

Check your return line for kinks or blockage. That can make them smoke. Did you check for shaft play when you put it in?

I dont know if i'd call it sweet, its hard to describe but its not that straight oil burning smell, I know how oil burn smells but this is a totally different smell, but tons on bluish smoke, coolant levels look fine too. This feels like one of those "why did i bother upgrading moments"...

Is it possible that you spilled some coolant somewhere and it's burning off?

it could oil the exhaust system from the install. if so it could take a long time for it to burn out. use to happen to me with my old dsm.
