It wasn't on mine, mine was set at 5000 and I have had the car since new.

Why do you emphasize "slowly" so strongly? I don't actually launch my Evo but I think it's a hoot reving it up using the launch control

hope I'm not hurting my car by just stepping on it.

Because some Evos will trigger a leaned out condition if the revs are built up to quickly. I've heard that it isn't "real knock" but its a gas pedal, not a button and you're a driver, not a robot.

2. You don't need to remove the pill or adjust your clutch pedal. Those MAY help the clutch feel, but they won't help you logically launch the car.
3. Stock Evo clutches are anything but weak. They do exactly what they were designed to do.

With the car stopped, and in first gear with the clutch pedal depressed, you need to SLOWLY build the revs until you hit the 2 step at 5000RPM. Once you hit that 5000 RPM 2 step, then you should fully depress the gas pedal.

At this point, you're still stopped and the vehicle is bouncing off the 2 step at 5000 RPM. Keeping the gas pedal floored, you need to lift the clutch out slightly (just enough to get the car to inch) this is taking the slack out of the driveline. Once the car starts to move forward, you can begin to release the clutch pedal appropriately.

You either want the tires to spin (which is unlikely at 5k on a stock Evo with good tires) or you want the clutch to slip a bit. THIS IS WHAT IS SAVING YOUR DRIVETRAIN. As the springs in the clutch compress from the added load, you will feel the car surge forward until the clutch pedal is fully released.

This all happens very fast, but it realistically needs to be a calculated maneuver. The gas pedal should remain floored for the entire process until you need to shift (unless you have a no lift to shift setup).

ok this is probably a real stupid question, but does the Evo come with a 2 step launch control?

Yes. Should be at 5000rpm stock (or 5500, can't remember)

It will develop a lean condition no matter because the 2 step works with fuel cut.

You'd be surprised on the performance of the stock clutch. I make a fairly good amount of power and I am still on stock clutch. I have launched my car quite a few times and it is holding up strong. You just need to get used to the car. Once you get tuned if the car isnt tuned already, your tuner will set up your two step, then you can get some practice and will soon get it down. But the stock clutch isnt to shabby if you ask me. Look at the mods in my sig and I am still going strong on the factory clutch.

I preload mine on the stock clutch and its still holding up like a champ. I am getting ready to switch it out though to an act cause the stock disc is not liking shifting the car at higher rpms.

If your wondering how to do this here is a video on how to:

So basically once i hit 5000-5500rpm's the launch control is activated w/ clutch in and in first gear. After its activated i can let off the gas and when ready push the gas pedal to the floor and it will bounce at the 5000rpms correct?

Funny how everyone is calling it a launch control... like Mitsubishi built in a launch control so we can launch the **** out of our cars lol, it's called a rev limiter so you don't rev to 8k and fry your clutch.

It's a stationary rev limiter more than it is a launch control. Basic steps are this:

Car stationary, clutch in, first gear. Get on the throttle. Rev limiter should activate at 5k or 5.5k (unless it's been messed with). Keep the throttle pressed. When you're ready, release the clutch* and hold on.

* Follow the advice mentioned in this thread for how exactly to release the clutch.

yes and no. When you put in neutral and put the pedal to the floor, it won't go past 8k, thats what i consider rev limiter. Since this engages a lower rev limit, i just consider it launch control since thats basically all anyone uses it for. That's only reason i call it launch control causes everyone knows what im talking about. Yes i know its not put in there so you can launch the crap out of the car without breaking it
