Hood vent/grill removal
Hey everyone. Ive been searching for a way to remove the hood vent and grill off a hood, and to replace them on another hood. Can someone explain how to do it? I searched a bit on the "how to" section... However... I didnt search too long. Thanks!

just remove the clips and nuts from the underside of the hood and it pops right out...nothing fancy. theres like 3 or 4 of those circular metal pop clips and maybe 5 or 6 nuts. The aluminum vent thingy falls right off and the grill will come right out the top side of the hood.

I know this is an old thread- but I am working on this as well.
I plan on removing both the mesh, and the louver part so I can repaint both.
These pictures are not mine, but it will show what I need to in order to ask the question I have.
The edge of the mesh screen has a rubber weather-strip of sorts. I raised the edge gently, and it looks to be only taped on.
Is it possible to remove the mesh only by itself so I don't have to mask this rubber portion off? I was planning on hitting this with some glass bead in my sand-blaster at low PSI to remove the original paint (which is chipping now)

As far as I can tell, you can't separate them without breaking something. The paint flakes off all the time due to heat. I just use a paint marker now and then and when it gets really bad I mask the frame and hit the whole thing with high temp black but the problem always comes back.

I just took it off the car. I see the mesh is sandwiched beween 2 pieces of metal. There are little spot welds holding it together. I was thinking of cutting these free so I can remove the mesh, but instead I will sandblast it as one piece. I removed the rubber trim. I was right, it was just taped on. It came off fairly easy with a little tender loving care. I will tape it back with the same style tape after painting is complete.

Anybody ever powder coat one of these so they require less "upkeep"? If so, how did it go?

sorry for the delay, had this done for a few weeks now. Nothing to special to look at- just looks exactly like a new stock part. I'm happy with the results.
By the way- I think it is fairly impossible to re-tape the factory rubber strip like it comes from OEM. I tried this, and had a hell of a time reinstalling the part once it was taped on. The tape was getting it the way. Instead, I used a 2 part urethane activated adhesive. That worked much better.
