Hit a curb today
Hit a curb today-Tire warning
Hit some sand today coming around a turn, rear end came out (was under acceleration). Unfortunately, I hit a curb and it gashed my Advan on passenger front. It's still holding air, but I just couldn't take it down any twisties with a gash in the sidewall like that.
Anyone have a used Advan tire for sale? 4-5K miles would be perfect, but I'm not too picky at this point.
*Wanted to edit this and let you guys know something I should have realized, but figured everything would be ok.
I thought and thought about what happened yesterday and I've come to this conclusion. The stock Advans (per the factory sticker on the driver door) are not meant for cold weather, whether it's raining, snowing, or DRY pavement. There's no fricken way I should have spun out yesterday on normal, hot, sticky Advans. But my spin-out yesterday was 30 seconds away from a cold start (Idle warm-up, which unfortunately doesn't warm up the tires!).
These tires are extremely slick when they're cold, moreso than any tire I've ever driven on. Please take that into consideration, as I'd hate to see what happened to me happen to anyone else.

Sorry you learned your lesson the hard way, but you're lucky as it could've been much worse. I hope everyone realizes that summer tires are not meant for temperatures below 40 degrees F. The tire compound gets hard and slick and you shouldn't take the chance at making it through the winter. Get all-seasons or winter tires, which can cope with the cold temperatures.
yesterday night in Boston was like 1degree outside. i had to go to my sister's house and started to warm up my car. then i remembered how bad the tires are in cold/wet days so i decided against it. lucky i decided not to because some of the road where she lives is all icy.
