I also bought my car without one and thought that it helped keep the engine temps down. I found that after I put one back on the hot air was pushed out of the engine better due to the shape of the vents, directing air out. It also helps keep harmful things like rain, snow, rocks, leaves etc. out of your engine bay (and potential thieves looking at your parts).

I ended up buying one from the stealership, as they are pretty hard to come by on evom's market place.

I have a 05 ralliart with a evo VIII vent hood, and i also dont feel too comfortable having snow inside my electric fan...anyone have a insulator for sale?

 

i just throw a cover over my hood.

 

I ended up picking up 1 from a member for like $35 shipped. Adds a little more piece of mind.
