Want to get in the evo game
Whats up guys ive been back and forth on either an sti or evo. I finally made up my mind and im sticking to it. I want to get into the evo game but I really don't know what to look for when buying a used evo ix. Im interested in purchasing one a couple months after income tax. But i really need to know what to look for the goods and bads and things to look for engine wise. I don't want to buy one and end up with an abused evo. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
Welcome! I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, looking to sell my current car and find an evo 8/9 in the near future, trying to decide if spending the extra thousands of $$ is gonna be worth getting the MR.
Thanks toole
Tpatterson I know what u mean about the mr but honestly I think I'm going to try my hardest to find a mr especially in white lol. But I say go for the mr man lol do it big. Good luck

If I could buy all over again :
Look for a ONE OWNER evo (that way you can ask the owner EVERYTHING about the car, preferable service records, see how he treated the car, etc)
NO MODS (people will put things back to stock and break things in the process, if it has been modded, make sure the parts are still on there and are put on by a reputable shop)
Under 40k miles if possible
My evo has had 3 owners before me and I find something new every day... kind've disappointing when you pay 25k for it.
BOTTOM LINE : ONE OWNER, and find out everything you can about the car
make sure you know a lot about evos before you buy one too...

yep one owner evo means absolutely nothing, you hear guys here getting evos with low miles and and this and that and all of a sudden boom something went wrong and of course they don't have a clue and they spend weeks asking people here what to do or what it could be, happen to a buddy of mine blew the head gasket the first week, he lasted with the evo about 5 months I still have mine. Definetly learn about the evos know what you want out of it and what you want to do with it(basic bolt ons or fully built) by the way I bought my evo in 06 with 50k didn't know any better, and it never gave me any problems and the stock clutch lasted me until 92k. And then bam I put about 7 grand into it the motor and tranny, but I made sure I did all the work because that would have easily double the price in labor, best of luck.

after market intake, manual boost controler( obviously messed with the boost) , missing the upper strut stabilising bar and after market mini battery kit. The car does look fairly clean, but when you look at an evo, manual boost controler is always a turn off for most because messing with boost is messing with the tune and if so most dealers tune the car back to stock. Is very limited what we can see from the pics, don;t know if it has after market turbo, engine internals etc. What I said about my buddy drove the car out of the dealer ship took it to the highway that week and blew the head gasket because the turbo vacumm lines were all screwed up, the turbo was maxing out blowing 30 pounds completely out of tune and certainly not ready to be under boost this was a car right of a dealership.
