Headlight

Im painting my headlight housing black, what silicon do you use to melt them back, I see people don't use anything when they put it back, I want extra insurance, so I don't have to reseal them again. Is there any place I can buy just the out side piece? My have turn to a yellow tint.
Thank you.

just use regular RTV silicone, there's black rtv so it blends. fill in the gap between the clear and black housing.

as far as the lens piece, you might have to buy a whole headlight if you can't find someone with a headlight in pieces. ebay my friend

You should be able to use the oem sealant without any issues. If your headlight is yellowing I would recommend getting it professionally recleared. It ends up being cheaper and faster than ordering new lenses.

Actually I wouldn't use RTV unless you want to have fuming issues which will most likely create a haze inside the headlight. I'm new to this forum but not modifying cars, and I have been over this many times on my lighting forum.

There is ebay or amazon (this is the amazon link) for the 3M Butyl Tape which is made not to fume, and to be removable with heat. http://www.amazon.com/3M-Automotive-...3427771&sr=1-1

And Nissan Oem Butyl Rubber Replacement which everyone including myself swears by it. Almost always about $20.00http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=5577&rsku=0

Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.

1 roll will do both headlights, it's pretty thick and seals up very nicely. You can even cut it long ways down the middle and it usually goes deeper into the groove for a nice clean seal. Some people need the glue gushing out the seam as a reassurance that it's sealed, IMO this is overkill, but whatever makes you feel comfortable.

I'm pretty well experienced with headlight lense removal, i've opened and reasealed evo lights in many different models. So any more questions just ask!

Hope this helps.

Sorry to highjack your thread, but is there a headlight that already comes painted inside new? I've seen many DIY, but I'm actually interested in new. I'm getting to the point now that DIY is never as good as new or maybe I'm just lazy

You're interested in in an OEM headlight that came blacked out inside? Or Aftermarket?
Also did yours come equipped with OEM Hid or Halogen?

I believe there is MR lights that you can get new or used on Ebay/Amazon, Have you tried the Marketplace yet for anyone selling black housing headlights? Probably more cost effective. I would do more research but I'm working while I'm typing this/trying not to get caught.

JDM headlight is black inside, cost around $750 a set, this DIY cost about $60. I'm paint the inside of the driving light red too, if you search demon eye headlight you will know what I'm talking about.

I think you just talked me into doing another DIY mod. Funny how I paid around $75 for Altezza tail lights for my Acura back in the day.

I actually prefer using oem housings and DIY anything i want to improve on with them. They seem to come out exactly how i want anyways, so i haven't felt the need to buy some done already for $750 since i can make it look as good or better for somewhere from 40 to 80 depending how crazy you wanna get with extras like LED's or demon eyes. But i like to just go stock but change the color to black, gives the extra look it needs.
