Fixing advice - rusted through O2 extension

My Evo IX has had a Perrin HiFlow Cat for about 3 years and was running an O2 extender that came with the car (bought the car used). Two weeks ago it started throwing the O2 SES light so I figured I would try one of the AMS extenders instead of whatever was on there.

I went out today to unscrew the old extender from the HFC and replace it with the new one. The old extender was so rusted it literally broke off in my hand with the threaded portion still threaded into the HFC. I tried Rust Blaster and some vice grips on the small piece that I can still grab, but i only seem to be bending what little metal is left of the extension.

Any advice on how to get the still threaded piece out of the pipe? Is this something I need to bring to an exhaust shop to get done? I was really hoping this would be a nice 5 minute fix win before it gets cold in MI!

grrrr mild steel exhaust parts!

EZ-out or drill and tap. might be easier to pull the part your working on and do it on a bench.

Would be much better to take off the part then bench it to be able to remove the broken part, keep WD40ing it and sounds like when you get the broken part out re thread it before the new part goes in.
