evoforstevo - Yeah I guess anything VTA is going to cause you to run rich without a tune, and a lot of people say they get compressor surge with the HKS. I dont have too many problems with the BOV itself, no surge really, but just some fluttering at low boost. Im going to get rid of it, Ive been researching Tial and havent seen one bad review on them.

What intake is on the car? I would not get too fancy on the BOV with a basically stock car myself. Instead, try a factory Evo IX metal diverter valve. Try a BPR7ES gapped tighter. You can't rule out fuel cut especially on the stock tune.

Sorry, but did you purchase this car used? Often times the sellers of used Evos do not restore the factory boost system back to original spec.

Why don't you try reinstalling your stock DV if you still have it, just to see if this has any effect on your problem?

I got it used with an Injen intake and the HKS VTA, boost is set to 19psi. I never messed with that, no point with the stock tune. MY plan of action from here is to get the cat off, get a tune, just with what I have on it, Im not going to add anything new. And see what i get from it.

Could also be your intake. I know my HKS filter was letting to much air in, and causing my car to act up like yours.

Bog then a backfire, huh. Has it ever worked right? What were you doing when you noticed it start to bog and backfire.

Change the plugs. New gas. Injection cleaner. (1 stage colder per every 100hp above stock). If you have never changed the plugs, its time anyways.

Boost leak test.

Tune.

Same as everyone else.

I just swapped my cat for a test pipe, and felt no difference. Since it only gets to 15psi and breaks up, I was now wondering if a new wastegate was in order. Ive been reading up on them, since I dont know what a busted one would feel like.

Other than the test pipe, I put in a set of BPR8ES gapped to .19, still no dice

I also found a crack in my Exhaust Manifold, I just took the heat sheild off for the first time ever since having it. I have no idea how long its been there but could that contribute? Whether it does or doesnt, its being replaced anyway!

cracked header manifold could cause the lower boost. you have a exhuast leak now , preturbo, so your loosing some pressure, hence your low boost too.
