Poor Starting Issues.

Poor Starting Issues.

My Evo IX MR is beginning to have a starting issue.

I currently have FIC 1150’s and a FP BB RED and all AMS Piping, FMIC, and Exhaust.

Spoolin’-up COP, new plugs gapped .22

255LPH

Cams are GSC S1’s so nothing crazy.

After I got the car tuned it would start every time but just weird. It would stumble but always catch if that makes sense. Now I have to give it more cranks and it catches but stumbles a LOT and either stalls or jumps up to 1500 RPM’s and then settles to 1000 RPMS. Now it might not start at all, cranks perfect brand new battery, and won’t turn over. It really reminds me of starting an old carbed V8 that has trouble turning over until it does, stumbles, then catches.

Help?

I'll get a Video up later.

Crank enrichment tables maybe?... Do you have tactrix cables handy?

Is your car garaged and what temp was it when it was tuned?

Oh and are you getting any codes?

Temp Fuel MS

-25.6- 113
-0.4 - 54
17.6 - 23
44.6 - 8.7
68 - 7.7
93.2 - 6.2
122 - 3.3
170.6 - 1.5
179.6 - 1.5

Try setting your ice ipw to these ^ settings +/- .2

Also if you have any advancement in your mivec maps might make it a bit hard to start.

You can also try flashing my map if you would like.

Oh yeah, do the usual too: clean maf, boost leak, engine ground cable, etc.

Has it gotten worse the colder it's gotten? When you got the car tuned, did your tuner log/tune to an actual cold start? I just got my car tuned, and before I had my tuner log/tune a real "cold start", it wouldn't start/idle for crap before it was warmed up.

Today it started right up but it was 60, must be a cold start issue. How do I safely clean my MAF?

CRC maf cleaning. It won't hurt composite materials like some other brands.

Just remove the maf from the car, hold the can 5 -6 inches away from the honeycomb mesh and douche it. Make sure you have a rag underneath it to catch the gunk or it might stain your driveway. Let your maf dry for 10 minutes and you are good to go.

Those low impedence injectors are spraying like a garden hose when cold.
My fic 850's did the same thing.
Check fuel pressure when starting. The regulator may not be holding pressure

Just a picture of what it looks like. It can be found at any local automotive store.

And changing the ipw in the colder regions of the injector crank enrichment table should help any start up stumble or hard starts. The injector latency values may be a bit off as well. It may have too much or not enough gas as it gets colder outside. It's a simply trial and error with the ipw setting and shouldn't take too long

Do you know what your long/short term fuel trims look like?
