On a normal driving, meaning flat terrain, can you really go above the manufacturer range of 17-23 mpg range for a EVO IX. I drove from CT to NJ and NJ to DC and when I computed my fuel consumption, I barely just match the 23 mpg. I mean, if the car can go 30 mpg, why can't the manufacturer put that in writing. I am just wondering...

yes.. the car can be tuned for better mpg a good bit.. the factory tunes are kind of retarded.

I got 36 mpg from my '92 Plymouth Laser (4G63 engine, 14b turbo and AWD - about 1/3 less hp that a stock Evo). This on a 400 mile trip that dropped 3000 feet in altitude starting in Colorado.

In 75K miles with my Evo I've never been able to summon enough courage to check the mileage.

Wow, I'm shocked at the low numbers. On a bad week I get 220 miles with a mix of city/highway driving. The best I ever got was going from PA to the Outer Banks, NC. We had to stop for gas and I was around 33 mpg and in the boost to make frequent passes!

A couple questions,

-Stock block or built with higher compression?
-Any way you can copy your timing table for us to see, up to 100 load?
-What mph were you cruising at?

And where in the world did you find 100 miles of downhill road?

Most important of all, can you duplicate it or even close to it without downhill roads? I've had some spikes in the past of 27 mpg pure city driving, but could never duplicate it willingly.

I regularly see 25-27 when making highway trips, thats with normal occasional boost driving,

I believe in the milwaukees drunkest evo owners board a couple years back there was talk of several guys who were approaching 400 miles to a tank, they had done extensive work on their fuel and timing map along with driving completely boostless.

My gas mileage on my 93 oct daily driver is about 220 a tank if I baby it... lucky you!

For the people who are crazy for MPG, you could always pull off your wastegate actuator so it doesn't build boost... I did this on my old DSM back in highschool

No point, control boost with your foot. Besides, I drive around while trying to keep the car in as much vacuum as possible both cruising and accelerating. I dont ever even come close to 0 pressure.

Your burning 30% more fuel with E85 and that is awesome mpg for e85 fuel. With E85 I was only getting 13-14 mpg.

this was prolly achieved because op stayed at the 65mph speed limit which barely keeps ur rpms around 2500....i know on flat highways if i stay between 65-70 my rpms are between 2500-3000, and with my red im not close to spoolin the turbo rpm wise, i have to say my best ever was about 320 on 91 octane, that was maybe 1 wot pull the whole tank, and the rest of the drivin it never went over 10 psi to pass traffic, its doable, your playin with your fuel pumps longevity but i see it as doable, especially with you ix guys that have a different 5th gear that keeps your rpms lower at the same mph. Or you mr guys that have an extra gear haha
