My 2003 Evo 8 wont warm up while driving.
well sounds like 2 different issues, for one if you put it in the right way it could be stuck open, maybe its a damaged thermostat, 2 when you top off the coolant after a part replacement, cap stays off radiator fill till its full, it will gurggle n bubble up to fluid top in the filler neck, keep adding till its full and about to spill out, simultaneously squeeze the upper radiator hose repeatedly, to help bleed out as much air as possible, top it off till full, make sure reservoir is full, cap on, go for a drive for like 10-15 mins come back park it let it sit and cool down a bit. Pop the cap off after cool again, double check level add till you can see it full at bottom of filler neck while squeezing upper hose here n there, that helps bleed air pockets out. Im gonna venture n say like some of these guys said, could be a bad or wrong thermostat, even in extreme cold if your slowly drivin it should only take a few mins to get warm. The other part with the heater knob, check on drivers side where the kick panel is by the gas pedal. THeres two plastic gears notorious for going bad, there are numerous threads of it on here, is the knob hard to turn to hot, dont incredible hulk it or itll cost you a lot. If theres resistance, thats a good place to start with potential parts needing to be replaced.
When the engine is running and the water pump is turning, coolant is circulating through the heater core. There is no valve in the system like on some cars. So when filling and purging the system, running the heater or not running the heater amounts to the same thing.
The Evo thermostat and the Lancer thermostat are two different sizes. The Evo thermostat obviously fits the housing. On the other hand, people keep buying and using the lancer thermostat. So, just curious, how does the Lancer install go, does it wedge in there somehow?
i had this same issue a few months back i bought t stat from advance and it was wrong i even crossed mistu number then i got mitsu stat and viola! i filled coolant with hoses all on and radiator cap off. Then i started car with cap still off and let it warm to operating temp. It burped itself and i pinched the top radiator hose to help it out. then i topped it back off and haven't had an issue since! Good luck bro.
