are Evo engines more reliable/easy to work on than the STi's boxer?

doing anything at all with your transmission will be a pain in the @$$, but the 4g63 engine layout is blatantly superior (in my opinion thats because they've been using it in dsms for decades) as far as driving, i drove an 06 sti before i bought my evo, the evo was just as blatantly more fun to drive, while the sti was just as blatantly more comfortable of a ride...I kinda like the word "blatantly" today...

to summarize, the evo is the car you want to work on and take to the track, the sti is the car you want to drive to the track in (don't remember who said this first but I'm pretty sure it was someone on this forum)

had an 07 sti and for the most part, i prefer the subaru layout. cams, sure they are easier on the evo, but you can make a ton of power on the stock sti cams. clutch or block swap? sti is a lot easier. im no pro, but i could get my sti longblock on an engine stand in like 4 hours from a complete running car.plugs also took me no more than 15 min after i had a rotated turbo kit on it.

That is fair. I am just providing my view of things. My brother and I are always working on our cars, and from the work we have done with both cars in the same garage, those are my opinions.

Not to many people have both cars side by side, I do.

Also we have spark plugs down to about 30min on the STI once it has cooled down.

never owned an sti. but from my evo experience of today, doesn't matter. shifted from 3rd to 2nd (instead of 4th) at 7k while WOT. Stock block saw 9000rpm+ and still 100 percent in tact. Reliable?!

I think somebody here mentioned that the Evo uses a similar engine as the DSM Talon/Eclipse/Laser does. Is that so? Cuz I'm looking at those too, but that engine bay looks so cramped to me. I want room to get my big dumb mitts around in there, hence why the STi is annoying.

its really 50/50 its what you like most. sure it might be easier to work on either car depending on what you have to do. it just matters how much you enjoy doing it in my opinion.

So they are both about the same, they have there pros and cons. I think that overall, the Evo is a much better engine platform, and an sti is much better drivetrain platform.

I am very happy that I own an Evo, and my brother is very happy with the STI. The biggest thing I can say about both the cars, is the evo can make more HP/TQ for way less money. It seems that everything on the STI will set you back a pretty penny.
I think the downpipe and turbo are was easier to do on a evo then sti.

Both have their pros and cons.

Evo motor and stock turbo are way better then subies I can definitely say that.

lol they use the same engine, only thing different is that the DSM engines timing is on the revers side, also with the intake.
