Airflow meter mesh

Hi, the mesh on my airflow meter has been dented in. I am wondering if i would be right to remove the mesh until i can get a new airflow meter. of course i intend to buy a new one asap, but i need my car this weekend.

Thanks.

Do you have a pic so we can see how bad it is? I would just leave it as is. There is a reason that mesh is on there, its to smooth out the air flowing into the meter. Unless you fear chunks coming off and getting into your turbo then just leave it alone.

You can remove it. a lot of tuners take these out if your running high boost or bigger turbos , however sometimes the MAF tables need re scaling to smooth the car out in its open loop control. IF this was my car, i would rip that thing out and see how it feels. you probably wont even notice any changes

Agreed.
That mesh is there to divert the air in a straight path across the MAF sensor. I would remove it if I were you. You will not need a new one.

I cut out a flange that was welded in my intake tube (which took up 1/3 of the piping) that is there to keep the diverted air from going upstream towards the MAF.
It took a couple months but The honeycomb finally blew out into the air filter.

Once in a blue moon I notice a hiccup at part throttle/light load. I'm sure it can be resolved at my next tuning session, although I really wouldn't care if it stayed the same, as it's very minute.

Good luck!
