Talking Airflow meter

Hey just wanting to pick a few brains of people who have played with this idea before.
Basically i am wanting to replace the standard air box on my evo7 and change it with a Apexi filter or something along those lines. I was wondering how people have set this up in ragards to the airflow meter.
What is my best option (with performance intentions) with the airflow meter, its located right on the end of the piping off the turbo, so theres hardly that much room anyway, being located kind of close to the manifold (heat wise) will i need to make up a cold air box surronding the filter.
Or is there a way i can ditch the airflow meter to free up some room and get some good circulation going?
I realise you can change to a map sensor with a new ECU bla bla.., but i dont really want to explore that option.

Anyhelp would be wicked

without the maf sensor there is no way the ecu can meter the airflow, how much fuel and spark it can give the engine for a proper combustion. if you want to ditch the maf you will need a stand alone ecu like aem ems or utec.
