Boost Help?

Hey guys, I just got an 2006 Evo IX MR the only after market parts on the car is the AMS front mount intercooler, full TBE, some type of intake, and a BOV brand is turbo xs, i also have a hallman mbc, also there is an aftermarket psi gauge inside the car on left side dash, when ever i floor the car the psi gauge only goes to 10-11psi, what is wrong with this? the car has no boost leak i allready have checked it, i should be running at least 25psi? I also tryed to turn up the mbc, it makes no difference if its on - all the way or if its on + all the way it still runs the same allways on 11psi when floored. the car runs strong tho, I feel like the mbc is not even working or doing anything. If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

no, you should not be running 25psi. you should be running ~18psi stock

check that the mbc is hooked up properly

I guarantee that on here we'll either help you out, or confuse you beyond all hope.

When you buy a used turbocharged vehicle it is always best to assume nothing and start over from scratch. Since you have an MBC it is best to get a couple of yards of new 4mm hose at the auto parts store and a half dozen hose clamps.

You can't just assume that the guy before you has routed and installed the MBC up correctly for you. So it is best to replace all the hose and route it properly assuring yourself along the way that there are no boost pills installed or minor leaks at the hose fittings.

Also, while you are at it you can check WG spring tension and adjust the WG preload properly. To do this just run a length of hose directly from the WGA nipple to the nipple on the compressor discharge tube.

Test drive it as set with the hoses set up this way to see what boost level you get. If it is the same 11 PSI then adjust WG spring tension by rotating the turnbuckle on the end of the threaded actuator rod until boost rises up to a level between 14-17 PSI.

After setting preload then you can reinstall the MBC. I hope that the steps outlined above
help solve your low boost level issue. If not get back to us and we will try to further confuse you. As I understand, the Hallman MBC's have optional springs available with varying spring rates. It may be that your MBC is fitted with the weakest spring. Also, some guys advise to disassemble the unit and lubricate it. Also, you might want to test with a stock metal MR DV. Good Luck!

no, you need to rewire the manual boost controller, not the boost gauge

Please do not turn up the boost on your car with out having it properly tuned. You should not exceed 18 PSI on your vehicle, if you do you will most likely end up blowing it(if the fuel cut doesnt kick in) or damaging other things.

if no one in your area tunes, you can purchase a tactrix cable, evoscan and for free get ecuflash then send the rom on you car to a remote tuner of your choice (mellonracing worked great for me) have them look at your current ecu settings (rom) to see what is up.

they can most likely help you with a mechanical issue as well (improperly installed mbc etc) good luck!

if the car runs strong, as in op, i would think the problem is with the boost gauge. make sure it is tapped off of manifold pressure and not the wastegate, and maybe try another gauge

what do u mean make sure its tapped off of manifold pressure and not the wastegate? the cables on the mbc are on the wastegate both of them idk where the psi gauge cables are connected to.
