Hey I am new and having bad issues!

Hello all I am new to the forum so I am sorry if i put this in the wrong area =/

I am currently having some issues with my evo 8. When i bought it from a kid and I knew it would require some work, but after rebuilding the whole engine I am at the same spot I was before. The main Issues I am having is... When I come to a stop or creep up at a stop light the RPM's suddenly drop most of the time resulting in it stalling. I starts right back up( most of the time ) then I carry on as I was. I have no clue what is going on with the car. I have everything back to stock all but the cams. it has 272 cams in it ( so the seller said ) and I have a set of stock cams that should be coming in this week. any Ideas?

Get the tune looked at. If the car was modified back it might not be right with the tune.

What intake do you have? Are you running a factory style recirc. set up (blow off valve)? If not swap in a stock intake and 9 recirc valve see what that does for ya.

is it running the stock air box? if so... what blow of valve does it have? if the BOV is VTA the car will react just like that. watch on corners.. .when you turn the powersteering robs the engine of power and with falling revs it can kill it. which drops your steering all together. i had this issue myself before i went to Speed Density..

it is running a after market intake, I know not my first choice. But everything else to my knowledge is stock. But the cams I mentioned before. I had the Dealer reflash my ECU to stock settings.

Sounds like you need a tune. Posting up a mod list would help.

Those sound like symptoms of an aftermarket hard intake tube, vibrations cause the maf to act erratically and stall in some cases, get a hold of a stock intake tube and an amsoil filter with a vibrant maf adapter, that's what I have and no issues

Aftermarket BOV?
VTA?
Does it happen more so when you have the HVAC going (Heat/Cold)?

An intake can cause that issue too, if it doesn't have the bends required for the MAF to read right.

Whats the vacuum at around idle? When I first put my cams before I adjusted the idle when I would come to a stop using the breaks it would almost cut out every time because there wasn't enough vacuum. I believe it was running around -8psi

As for mods, the only mods I have left on the car are Kelford 272 cams ( which I will be swapping out for stock cams this week ) and the hard piping. I have no idea what the vacuum is to be honest. There doesn't seem to be a different issue with the heat on full blast or not at all.

I have the stock BOV on. I also have a brand new IAC as well. It idles ok at about 970 but then it will drop to 200 and then go up to 1500 and go down to 970 again.

I am thinking the cams are playing a large role in the erratic idle but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the help keep it coming!!!

check all the vacuum lines, sounds like one of them could have popped off. This happened to me all the time on my old GST, would stutter really bad at stops and would run rich.
