Upgrade research

Hello all,

My wife has given me a $3k max to put upgrades into my evo when I get it. I am coming to you experts for recommendations on what I should upgrade. I am leaning more towards performance upgrades but am open to visual as well. I do know that I will have to get a turbo timer and boost guages and stuff. Any recommendations?? Probably looking for the most bang for the buck, but not sacrificing drivability since this will be a daily drive. I live in the New England area and will be looking for recommendations on places to get the work done as well.

Thanks in advance,
EVO_NX

Mods

Well you can go with a TB Exhaust, boost controller, some kind of fuel control. That route if you want.

Suggestions number 1, 2 and 3:
Forget the turbo timer.
Forget the turbo timer.
Forget the turbo timer.

You can do the same thing yourself by exercising a modicum of self control and driving mildly the last 2 or 3 miles of your trip. Use that money to take your wife out for a nice steak dinner to show you appreciate all the other fun stuff you got for your Evo. It might even pay extra dividends later in the evening.

I agree, the most cost effective way to go is to do a drop in KandN filter, a turbo back exhaust, manual boost controller, and maybe a apex safc....try machevo for that stuff.

"Given" you? What kind of abusive relationship are you in?

$3000 will take you a long way.

K&N/Buschur cone filter
Apexi SAFC
electronic boost controller (HKS EVC)
turbo-back exhaust (too many to choose from)
lowering springs (Tein, kg/mm, Espelir)

Even with install and tune, you should still be well within your... allowance.

1. Cat-back exhaust and downpipe.

2. Boost gauge or set of three gauges that includes a boost
gauge.

3. Vishnu Xflash (custom tuned).

4. Save $900 for your new set of tires that you'll need within a
year.

Before you consider upgrading your suspension/brakes, go to a driving class at a track so that you can learn how to extract every ounce of performance from your car. The car has very high limits stock. Then, after you reach the limits of the car, you could look into upgrading at that time. You'll have a great time at the track too!

if your going to add mods you might want to save some of that for an upgraded clutch.

Yup.. sounds perfect there...

Filter isnt necessary at his stage (stock panels are quite good unless u decide to put in a bigger intercooler) IMHO... better get a recirculating BOV so you can play with more boost.... and be sure to get a 3" turboback...if you can get the Australian Turbosmart e-boost, i highly recommend it because you can set the turbine to overboost at low RPMs so you get that extra torque.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Keep them coming Are there any manufacturers that I should lean towards more than others?? or are they all similar in the own right.

So far I am seeing:

electronic boost controller
cat-back
turbo-back
downpipe
dyno flash of some sort
cold air intake?
blow off valve

Is there a guage system kinda like Alpine that has all digital and would cover everything?? Just kinda curious .

Thanks again for all the info.

Yeah, someone posted clutch.. he's right... save something for an uprated clutch.. single plate... dont get a twin because it may be too hard on your central diff if you drive the car hard... better to replace a clutch plate then a central diff and better to replace a single plate then 3 plates on the twin...

(The stock clutch will go... sooner rather then later.. )

As far as manufacturers go, go with the japs.. they have more experience then the other (no offence US and Europe) but its a fact.. they built the damn car...

I was doing some looking on Boost solutions and found a B&B full turbo back exhaust. It states that it adds 50whp. What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone used this product on their EVO? There is even a sound file for it and it seems to have a nice rumble.
