BOV recommendations

I have recently purchased a 03 Evo 8 and as much as I love the car as a whole the car has some issues. The big one right now is the bov. It has a short route upper pipe with a hks ssqv recirculated. The car sometimes stalls when pushing in the clutch, the idle bounces around a bit and I just generally hate the sound of the hks. My question to all is what you think the best option would be also keeping in mind cost. If I can get away with keeping the pipe I already have and replacing the bov that would def. be the cheapest fix. I have heard good things about the synapse syncronic. It appears to use the same style flange as the hks but I'm not 100% sure. I'm also considering getting a new upper pipe and going back to a stock 9 bov or even something like a tial qr. Any suggestions and opinions would be much appreciated.

Tial is a great bov, but the oem 9 is the best IMO. A lot of people will tell you the same. From what I've been reading the hks is garbage for our cars.

yeah I was thinking the tial qr. I've read the 9 bov is really only good to around 25 psi of boost. Not that I plan on running that much right now but in the future if I switch turbos or something I would rather not run into any issues and have to buy a whole new setup again.

just go with a metal MR bov

when you go with a tial your gonna need to drill out the UICP and weld on the flange. seems like a lot of work thats not even needed, or buy a new one, which is not the cheapest option here

This is really your best option. I actually just sold my stock 9 valve and IC pipe to someone who had a HKS because he had the same issues as you

I personally am replacing it with the Syn. DV, but that's also because I want to run more boost than the 9 valve will handle without crushing it.

Stock metal 9 bov worked great for me,thats the cheapest route. It went through a few turbos. stock 8, stock 9, fp green, and finaly gave out trying to hold back 29-30 psi that a mid size garret turbo was pushing. . Then i went to a synapse DV (small grenade looking one) loved it but after going to Speed Density it didnt look quiet right to me so I am now gonna try a Tial Q VTA. If i was going aftermarket and recirculating its back to synapse id go. Good luck

The metal MR valve is def. going to be the cheapest route but I would still need to get a new upper pipe because of the hks flange welded to it. So at this point if I'm going to replace the upper pipe to have a different flange I might as well go the tial route. Does anybody know if the synapse synchronic uses the same style flange as the hks? If it does I will just get the synapse valve with the recirc kit.

I'm running 31 psi on the 9 bov so I don't know where you read it's only good to 25 psi..

Believe me it leaks. I was running a crushed one and it still leaked past 28psi, though on a GTX-35R.

Since I was running speed density one side was open. So just to know for sure I blocked the open side and the car hit 32 psi on the next run. Now I'm running a Tial Q Bov.
