What do you mean, the top radiator panel was replaced? If you're talking about the plastic tank, it's crimped down to the core, and it's not time efficient (or ever effective, tbh) to replace just the tank, hell you really couldn't without causing more problems than you're fixing. The whole unit gets replaced.

Mine was replaced with a non-factory unit by a body shop, unsure if it's Evo specific or just the Lancer radiator, but I've never had issues on the dyno. I've seen coolant temps as high as 230F during multi-gear pulls on the street, but they always drop near instantly after the throttle is released, guessing it's just the FMIC transferring heat to the radiator, 32psi through the stocker's gotta get pretty hot. I wouldn't be surprised if similar temps (or slightly higher) are achieved on the dyno, but it's never been an issue.

See if you can get more fans for your next dyno run
Really hope it won't overheat on the street! Will have to test and see.
Thanks for the suggestion KX250Fmotoracer!

Thats odd why wouldent he replace the whole unit? Also Yes after a koyo my car was fine on the dyno. Does it overheat on the street after pulls?

cmspaz,
Tbh I also have no idea how the previous owner or the radiator shop did it because as you mentioned its crimped good. I bought the car used and was told 'your rad top panel has been replaced'. I don't see any letters or numbers stamped on the plastic, its just blank.
I really hope the temp rise is normal. The only way to find out is to whack it on the street. Just can't believe a stock evo would overheat with just a few runs. Do you think it's a good idea to do a pressure test on the cooling system? Thanks for the opinions!

I have no idea why he didn't replace the whole unit. I also don't know how they managed to 'uncrimp' the top part of the radiator. I have yet to really test it on the street in hot weather because I'm scared of damaging anything. I did a couple of max boost during night time tho and it seemed to be OK, so far.

I found a leak where the coolant hose connects to the throttle body. Coolant was dripping onto the gearbox after a hard drive. Could this be the cause of the overheat?

Most likely not. If It was severe enough, the pressure drop could cause a temperature rise. But, from the sounds of it the leak was quite minimal.

If the car does not overheat on the street, don't worry about it. You just need more airflow on the dyno.

When I had my car retuned at AWD in March of last year. Diiirk and myself both didn't notice/forgot to turn the fans on and it was fine.

It was probably 75 that day. After letting the car sit(turned off) with the fans on it for a few mins then doing another pull at the end there was only a 1hp difference.
