Overheating ONLY on dyno

Hi, just wondering has anyone had a rise in water temp above the normal level ONLY on dyno sessions...but fine on street, highway blasts? We had a flash on dynamics for my stock e7 the other day. The early parts of the datalogging/tuning sessions were fine but the problem started occuring towards the end as we tried tweaking the afr curve. We could see the temp needle hovered above the half mark between the pulls which was also confirmed in evoscan coolant temp readings. Not sure if its related but when it happened my afr went slightly lean? We tried turning the aircond fan on and for some reasons the afr went to the intended map. Went home fine no problem in stop and go traffic, checked coolant level normal, no leak, white smoke, nasty smell, mustard oil cap or anything like that. We have a feeling the fan controller/module has gone beserk, i.e fine most of the time but fail on boot. Really really hope its not HG. My tuner has done a wonderful job, and hopefully anybody would chime in and shed some lights. Also posted in MLR. Thanks in advance and sorry for the essay.

You just need more airflow through the radiator. Don't be afraid to take a break, spray the IC/RAD with water. It is not totally uncommon!

Are you running a stock evo radiator? Why I ask is because my car would only overheat on the dyno, found out previous owner put a lancer radiator in it. Swapped to a koyo and have been fine since.

If it over heats on the dyno it will over heat on the road under load.

I don't agree. Even an awesome dyno fan is going to blow like 40 MPH air, while even a second gear pull brings you to around 60 MPH. that's a huge difference in airflow across the radiator and IC.

You fans suck! lol. All I can think of? More info on the radiator/fan setup would help.

blknblubkrdude,Glad to hear it's uncommon. I only had a few dynos in my life and the ones I had before had none of the issues above hence I'm kind of like freaking out. I will do as suggested.

Chaser_41,The temp was around 30 degree celcius outside, which is the norm here throughout the year. Cooling systems are stock AFAIK apart from the top rad panel which was replaced by the previous owner due to crack. I did a flush about 10,000 km ago with 60% piped water 40% coolant. Stock water pump, thermostat, hoses etc.

AngryEvo8,yes, stock radiator. Have you had your car with koyo on dyno to confirm as I would like it to be on my list.

Sharkbite2000,Agreed given the SAME amount of load applied to both dyno and street.

THUB,Agreed also hence I'm trying to find the root cause of it since it was fine on the same dyno before.

Not enough air-flow. If it doesn't do it on the street, don't worry about it.

See if you can get more fans for your next dyno run
