it's not a fun job, and the rate likely depends on shop rates in general in your area. While you're in there you should replace the stem seals too, with lower profile ones if you've gone up on lift (and who doesn't with cams :-D )

you can either do air or coil some rope down the hole and roll that cylinder up to TDC.

not sure what a shop around here would charge, I do all my own work.

Depends on shop rates....being at $50-75/hr is vastly different than say $100hr....

I actually made my appointment there for next week they quoted me at $600. After talking to a local dsm/evo friend and with brian and Jamie I decided that's the best place regardless of the $$!

i would be weary of shops that charge $200-$300 for such a job...$600 is reasonable and you're in good hands.

It should be $500 or less. I paid to have mine installed at seperate times and still came out less than $500

All the Evo shops here in NC charge close to $250 for each job. But as long as it is an Evo shop doing the work I wouldn't complain too much about price since they have a passion for these cars

Not fighting just stating that the price is way high. Don't matter to me either way I work on my own car.

If it makes you sleep better paying more money than you should be for something more power to ya.

I'd love to see you do springs/retainers in about an hour or so. You need to be extremely careful you do not drop a valve doing this, so time needs to be taken. I can do the intake side in about an hour, and I've been doing this **** for 10yrs. Sure you can pay some hack *** mechanic a case of beer and $20, thing is do you want quality?
