$750 to install cams and valve springs!?

I've asked for a quote from a local shop to install cams and valve springs and they quoted me 450 for cams and 300 for the valve springs. Seems kind of outrageous since I paid 650 for the cams and springs..

Honestly that isn't to bad. I did my own with a spring compressor and a air compressor. But think about it, if they don't take the head off the car they are doing the same thing, doing the timing belt etc there is a lot that actually goes into it. So time is invovled. Take that into consideration.

That is way too much, if you ask me they are about 250-300 too high. They likely don't really want the job so bid it high.

So glad I don't have to pay people to work on my car.

450 to do the cams ok because of all the timing removal stuff. but what i dont understand is why its another 300 to do the springs when the cams will already be out if should take only maybe a hr to change the springs once the cams are out

To the OP, the price you were quoted is legit.

Valvespring compressor tools are not fun. Its definitely a 2 person job. If you want it done right, you are going to pay.

if they are taking off the head to do the springs then yes , if they have the tools to do the springs with the head on which they should have , then its a 4 hour job 5 at the most

Wrong ^, OP the 750 you were quoted is ridiculous. Of course assuming they are not removing the head which is stupid with the correct tools

And there you go .

Hell even pulling the head to do cams, springs, retainers, and studs the car was back together way under 8 hrs
