Greddy BOV on Evo 9 questions, conerns?

Ok I just purchased a 2006 Evo IX MR and it came with what I believe to be the Greddy Type R BOV with Injen hard pipes. I have been reading about how a VTA BOV is bad for the vehicle, just how bad is it? The idle is also not the greatest, a little bouncy when it warms up but never acts like it wants to die. Im not to sure about how to adjust it either. I did search the site for answers but came up dry. Can anyone help?

Injen intake pipe has an flange for a recirculation hose. Just connect them.

Measure the diameter of the outlet for the BOV and the pipe inlet and get something a tad bigger and you should be good
:edit: get 2 worm clamps as well to hold it tightly

I had a VTA greddy type rs fitted on a flanged UICP. It drove fine until I would maneuver in a parking lot, then it would often stall.

My greddy had a tip that was designed to make the air louder, not recirculate. If you have one of these tips, you will have to replace it with a recirculating one to gain the better DD ability... you may always battle flutter though.

I just went with a synapse and am very happy with it. I do miss the ricer sound though...

Not sure on the size off the top of my head, but just measure the outer diameter of the flange, and that will tell you the inner diameter of the hose you need. Also, if you need a curved hose, go to an auto parts store and check out the radiator hoses they have hanging up. You can match up the bend you need and toss the extra.
edit: just out of curiosity, does your car even have a maf?

+1

....when I bought my EVO the BOV was VTA and the hole plugged in the Injen pipe.....guess the kid liked the ricer sound. Hooking it up the right way definitely seemed to help with the idle as well...

How bad is it for the car to have it VTA? I have heard some crazy stories about how bad it is for the vehicle.

It's not really "bad". It's just not good. lol
I'll put it simply...
The incoming air is metered. Fuel is added as needed. When you lift and that "counted" air is vented, you now end up with a bunch of extra fuel...

Could be other issues. This car is used right? are you sure it doesn't have cams or was tuned in the past and then when they sold it they removed some of the parts it was tuned for?

Car is stock as stock could be. The guy was not knowledgable at all. I think it also could be a bad BOV adjustment. I'll be getting it tuned in March also.
