Spun out today :(
Damn, looks like quite a few people have had some close calls. Not me, knock on wood.....I drove my last car (Mazda MX6 V6) like a bat outta hell so I think I got all of my stupid, overconfident, driving accidents out of the way of that car. Hopefully I won't get carried away and push the envelope too far with the evo. But anyways, be careful guys. AWD is great but it doesn't make you invincible!!!
this is a testament that car's "defenses" like good tires, AWD etc is only good for smooth controlled driver.... errastic and sporatic drivers like some of you will constantly push the car above its traction limit... ouch... why not just take it easy?
Hmmm, one of my joys is kicking the rear end out around corners. I found that it's especially easy to do in the cold. I also find that the Evo is really easy to recover from and control oversteer.
That's the truth - I took my car out onto a grass landing strip yesterday and it was stupid fun - getting up to 35 or 40 and doing nice long drifts (while watching for planes of course
) Can't wait to get some stills or video of it....

You need to learn how to drive before you hurt yourself or somebody else. Driving school is the best mod for your car.
You shouldve payed attention the the gravel on the side of the road before you did that stuff.
And why do you just keep clearing your CEL light?
There might be something wrong with your car

Well, we have all done some dumb stuff like that (I sure as hell have!), but thats how you learn. I know that learning on the street is not the smart way to do it, but you learn none the less. I have had an unexpected pirrouette or two in my old BMW and it deffinatly taught me a some valuable lessons. I think that it was Sterling Moss who said "You are better off going into a turn slow and coming out fast then you are going in fast and coming out dead". True
Isnt it if you clear your CEL light and if there really is a problem it will come back? I didnt do anything to cause a CEL. Does anyone think there is maybe dirt in some place that is causing the CEL?

if it came back then there is something wrong
take it to autozone or the dealer and see what the code is
You might have ripped the cord to the rear O2 sensor or something
Try checking the O2 sensor wire

Ugh, stuff like this makes me shudder. It could have been any of us, sure, but a car like this REALLY demands some driving school at a track. If you don't get yourself and your Evo to some kind of high performance track driving event, there is NO WAY you can approach the limits of the car for any significant length of time. Track instruction allows you to hang the tail out lap after lap, and really understand where the limits are. I think it's critical for the Evo, because the car can seem almost invincible compared to other cars, and when/if you DO lose it on a public road, it can be tricky to gather back up because of the high speeds involved.
I also have found the Advans to be pretty sensitive to temp. When it's cold (like 40 degrees or below), anticipate less grip. If it's below freezing, assume SIGNIFICANTLY less grip. Snow? Forget AWD, this car is NOT going to have much in the way of traction. The Advans really are just a notch below an all-out track tire, and they're heavily biased toward warm temperatures and dray conditions.
As to the Service Engine Soon light, I wouldn't worry about it. There's no ECU code for, "It Appears You Have Driven Off the Road," so it'll probably have some random error like "Misfire in Cylinder 3" or "AWD System Error" or something. That can happen when you bounce over the shoulder and into a fence. If it doesn't come back, don't worry about it.

I spun out today on the freeway too. It scared the living day lights out of me. I'm just lucky to still have my car and and not hurt anyone. It was like 10 degrees below out today. I drove the rest of the way home like a grandma
