a problem evo, to sell or not to sell.
He's not going to get more than $10K as stated before.
Gotta tear it down, straight edge the head and block.
This is why you don't take out a heafty loan, rebuild something, and throw more parts on it when you have no money!
This sounds like the norm around here now:
Got a Loan from Parents(convinced them it was the right car for me)>
modded the evo(4K for parts,money i don't have)>
Blew up (at least 5K to fix)>
no money to fix(because I'm not a mechanic)>
Parents want me to sell

I agree with above it is sad. But its because the older ones are becoming more affordable for the younger buyer.
Next will be the X's turn. Mommys and Daddys will really cry when their kids start blowing them up. Think parts for the VIII/IX are pricey
Hell at least they'll be CT9A parts all over the place

+1, this is why I was hoping these cars would hold their value, the more they drop the more cases like this will arise. Should really wait to mod heavily until it's at least paid off.. like stated, this is seeming to be the norm.
As to the OP, honestly, just take what he can get, and get out of that situation and chalk it up to a hard lesson learned

he'll be glad someone said it... I still think he should sit on it for a while. it's driveable now, he just got it yesterday they offered 8500 for it. It's really his mom that will lose all the money... I hate to see it happen, but if theres no way to hold anyone else responsible i guess that's all he can really do.
