Retainers broke off!

I was replacing the timing belt this morning when I turned the car on the car was knocking pretty bad. So I took out half of the engine out... What do I see 8 retainers are broken off the metal piece that holds the retainers is broken, I decide to take it in to get fixed at a local shop, I came home I see the pistons have a few hits in them from the valves. Are the pistons fine to run like this?

have the pistons checked out---a slight ding shouldnt be a problem---but the valve that hit them and the guides---well thats the real concern.

The valves seem to be fine. I was just curious if the piston can work properly with few dings in them from the valves. My retainers also bent. FML can anything else go wrong here. Jesus.
Pistons have like two outlines in them. 4 of my retainers bent also. :[

Whoa! Sounds like you need to take it apart and bring it to a builder.
And about your dinged pistons, they should be fine. I would swirl polish the area a bit but yeah they should be fine.

if there are sharp edges in the pistons (valve imprints) you will most likely create hot spots on the pistons...not good

take it to a reputable shop and see what they decide. i think its better to replace everything thats damaged. u dont want to replace JUST the extreme damaged parts and later the slightly damaged part will mess up the new parts resulting in even more money.

If the pistons have any marks on them, you better check the valves again. If they hit the pistons, they are the first thing to give. 99.9% chance they are bent. Whichever valves are bent, you better check guides too. They will crack when a valve is bent.

Pistons may be okay. Valves - No.
