^^^ Good question. It would be nice to have an answer based on lots of enjoyment of the package and one based on conservative driving as well.

Any info on fuel economy with the various packages? Can/do any of them actually improve fuel economy due to better efficiency? Also, here in Houston the pump gas is 87, 89 and 91 octane. How do the stages perform on 91? I see mention of maps for 94 and race gas. Are there maps for 91? I know it won't do as well as the higher octane however due to economic reasons it would pretty much be required to go with the 91 that's universally available. Thanks for any input on these questions.

Yes, for $3995 you can get your EVO, on race gas into the 11's. We have gone 11.65 at 117.88 in ours. This was with the AEM though which gave us an additional 10 hp and another 40 ft lbs of torque. We have another customer who is on this forum that has gone 11.8 at 119 mph on this same combination and the AFC.

Driveability is perfect hardly any difference from stock. The stock parts are already holding up to over 500 whp, with the boost and tuning correct for the octane you run the engine will hold up for a LONG time.

Fuel economy. Can't answer this one honestly. The DSM's were rated at I believe 25 mpg on the highway. Four of us once drove to Oklahoma for a race in ours. The slowest of us was running high 12's. All of the cars got OVER 30 mpg, the highest was 32 mpg. I am going to say that with the modifications that we do making the car much more efficient that the fuel economy is going to go up just like in the DSM's.

I have no what the mileage is in our car, everyone that drives it is at WOT most of the time.

We will have a flash specifically for 91 octane next week.

We did manage to run 12.0 at 115 mph on 94 octane in our car though.

Dave,
As always, thanks for the information. I would have expected some of the cars (assumed to have aftermarket cams) to have had worse fuel economy, but you certainly disproved that preconception!

At what stage, would emissions testing become a problem (assuming you use the high flow cat)? Again, I would guess perhaps Stage 3, with the HKS Cams?

Also, is it possible to get the package and replace the full exhaust with your 2.5 inch downpipe and 3" SCCA Legal Catback (in order to keep the stock cat) or will this slightly more restrictive setup increasingly rob the other mods of power to the point where they were worthless?

So can anyone running a stage 1 or stage 2 comment on their fuel economy before and after? I would think that with the tuning for the stage economy might go up a little since the tune is optimized.

I'm especially interested in mods that increase both performance and mpg. I know that sounds crazy but since I'd probably be into the performance band only maybe 10-15% and the other 85% or so just cruising to work etc. I'd really like something that boosts it's economy as well.

I'm totally crazy too! Also, if this is the case assuming you keep the stock cat, I'd expect emissions testing to be a breeze.

Exactly! That's what I'm looking for is a 30-40 whp gain that also gives a 1-2 mpg gain when one keeps their foot out of it. I also want to pass emissions when I have to without having to put a cat back in and out.

I would think that's a workable combination as long as one isn't too enthusiastic with the loud pedal. Anyone?

stage 1

For the $1350 stage 1 package, what kind of results can you obtain. my problem is I dont want to pop the clutch and screw it up everytime I wanna get into the 13's. I would like to achieve low 13's without dumping the clutch. Can anyone suggest anything. Someone told me the vishnu stage subzero may be able to get me there but how does that compare to the bushur stage 1

I think you are right. I think the high rpms really suck the gas out of the tank in this car, moreso than the average car on the road due to the pig-rich air-fuel mixture. Perhaps, Mitsubishi was trying to be extra conservative or comply with the 120,000 mile cat life by using the air-fuel mixture, but I think the slight leaning that the dynoflash or buschurflash use should actually be a good thing for fuel economy and emissions testing.

11's yes

I's my daily driver and the oly thing different from stock.... intake noise and blowoff Pssss(loud)... louder muffler at full throttle.

Oh and that **** eating grin anytime someone revs on you
Robi,

I, like you, would be driving the car every day. What kind of fuel "economy" are you seeing? I want to do the stage 4 and quit... but want to know what I'll be living with.

Gentle foot highway 85mph cruise = 24mpg... use the apexi and never go past 25% throttle... The biggest prob is that it's so fun you can't keep your foot out of it :-).
