Evo 8 hood vent

I have an HKS Super mega flow intake and I drive without the hood vent cover (Aka see into the engine bay). How dangerous would it be to drive it in the rain? Will lots of water reach the intake through the vent in the rain? I lost the clips to my hood vent cover so I can't put it on until I get more. Dealerships would have them I suspect

Its not enough to care by the time it gets into the motor like that it burns off to be honest with you. Remember its a rally car and its a car all kinds of stuff along with water gets kicked up in there. But dont drive it through the water like a lake or something or water deep enough to get into the motor and you should be straight.

Snow and Hard rain hasn't effected my car at all. I don't think it's a huge deal but having the vent off does increase the amount of dust build up in the engine bay. I put the vent back on because it looked a lot less tacky.

Here is a diagram for the hood and a place to purchase the plastic screws you need to put the vent back on.

i would leave it in, maybe take it off for a car show day or something but for DD use keep it in, plus the vent is designed to help take heat out of the engine bay so its a plus

^ Me too I bought my evo 4 years ago and have never had the vent cover. I have been looking for the stock cover but have never had luck finding one. I've driven in heavy downpours without a problem. A little bit of water never hurt anything, if the water makes it all the way thru the intercooler, pipes, intake mani and into the motor, think about how hot your motor is. Whatever makes it that far is just going to burn up.

Eventually it will lead to the paint in your engine bay getting nasty, and rust building up.

Just make sure if you do do it, and are washing your car, that you don't spray the water onto the intake filter.

I just took mine off because it was missing a couple of bolts and it rattled. I threw the cover away

Having second thoughts now

I've run an evo with and without the vent cover in all kinds of weather, some of it very nasty, with this intake and I've NEVER had a problem.

The only time I have had any water get into the intake is when a tropical storm hit.

Now, I know that the hood vent is good for getting heat out.. but does it help cold air get in at all???

rain wont effect it, for the most part, only way rain will get in is if your at a dead stop and if its pouring out. However most of the stuff underhood is metal, and the water will heat up and evaporate. Second, as your driving, the way the hood is designed with the lip in front of the vent it pushes the air and simultaneously the water around the vent and out the side of the hood or up the windshield and over the car. I took my vent off my carbon fiber hood over a year and a half ago, weve had some bad rain here n there here in cali, I just keep on driving it, im more concerned personally driving my car, without the underpanel that ive never had on the car in some of the heavy rain. haha but ive never popped any fuses, check engine light battery light etc. Dont sweat it, just cuz our car is made of chopsticks, dont mean its gonna keel over at the first sign of rain haha its japanese but it aint japan haha

if you trust the people where you live then you dont need it. If you dont i would put it back on. You can get to a lot of wires and lines through the hood vent

+1 for dirty nasty engine bay and a RUSTY manifold, and nosey people are able to look right at what ever you have going on under the hood. i am in the middle of a rebuild and looking at turbos/manifolds and believe me when that goes on i WILL have the cover in,
