New EVO owner, just wanted to say hi!

Just got rid of my JRSC RSX Type S and got the EVO VII all that I can say that this car is better in every way, it is awsome. I hope that I will be able to learn alot from this board and also contribute too. I did alot of great new things with the RSX and cannot wait to start to do things to my EVO!!! First thing to start is a turbo timer I think I am going to go with Apexi.....where have you guys been mounting them?? Thanks alot!!

Ohh and a little info on my RSX-S it had 255 WHP but we just got done building my buddy's and it should have about 430 WHP I post alot on clubrsx.com

Congrats on the car. Don't throw away money on a turbo timer that could be spent on a useful upgrade though. All a turbo timer is is a device that simulates driving the last 2 or 3 miles of your trip at a mild level. You should do that yourself rather than rely on something fallible to do it. All it takes is a modicum of self control and discipline to take care of it.

You'll also save a significant amount of fuel and added running hours over time. I'm just waiting for someone to confess and post about their turbo timer failing to shut off the engine and it just sits and runs for hours until they return and find it running, or return and find it stalled after running out of gas and having fuel starvation.

Turbo timers are a money maker for the seller and a needless expense for the buyer. Anyone who isn't mature enough to take care of their car without that crutch should be in an immature person's car anyway.

^^ You know what you are a real peice of work LDB. Just because someone doesn't feel the need to either sit in the car for after driving hard or driving "at a mild level" before stopping makes em immature??? Man that pisses me off.

I have never heard of anyone having their timer run forever, and I like the convenience of it.

Anyways B4 I lose it anymore and turn this thread into something bad, if you want a Turbo Timer, get one. I have the Apexi and I love it. Ihave it mounted on the drivers side above the light adjustment controls...nice and neat

oops...my bad its the EVO 8.
LDB Your right about not driving the car hard for that last few minutes of your drive, but I am still worried about the turbo and oil being hot. I mostly just drive to work so I would not worry about the car not shutty off. Thanks for advice...maybe you can help me on this. The Greddy Type S BOV is the best recirculating vavle for our cars....when its tuned right and the little spring is out the turbo will not have a compressor surge and the bov will open and shut smoothly and will not be jerky. I did a search and I figured that since you were kind enough to respond to my Newbie thread that you could throw some advice my way. I do not want to harm my or effect the drivabilty on it. I just want i to be able to hold boost to redline so I figure if I get a EBC, BOV, Dynoflash, and a drop in filter it should be plenty fast and reliable, right and drive nice and smooth. No further tuning should be needed.

If you got the car you wanted and left smiling then you got a pretty good deal. Too many people get their panties in a wad over that last couple of hundred dollars they may or may not have saved or spent. That's the price of a soda a day and while I don't want to throw away money I also don't want to ulcerate myself over the cost of a soda. Enjoy your new car and keep smiling.

welcome to the board......i also sold my rsx for an evo. my rsx had hondata, intake, exhaust. it was fun but it's definitely no evo! every dollar spent on the evo is so much more satisfying because of what you get out of it. so far i have the emanage, 5 zigen catback, forge dv, and apexi AVCR......needless to say the car is a kick in the pants!!!

I see alot of people that have been selling their RSX's and buying EVO's. They must realize what a great deal the EVO is for the money you spend on it.

Your post here doesn't make sense with your earlier comment,
Don't throw away money on a turbo timer that could be spent on a useful upgrade though.
Turbo timers cost around $100, which you say is a waste of money, yet you complain that people shouldn't worry about a couple of hundred dollars. Isn't that throwing money away? I don't know why you have such a hatred for turbo timers, did you have a bad experience with one, or does your worst enemy work for HKS or Greddy? I've seen more than one thread where you insult people that have turbo timers.
People that get timers get them for peace of mind, and most likely, convenience. Those reasons are as good as any.

Welcome scottatayamaha! One suggestion would be to put one of the clear film such as 3M Stongaurd on the front, it will help a lot with the chips. I now wish I had early on as my front end would have been much happier for it!
