It's a very solid car. You won't have problems with the Tranny or clutch unless you try to race it everyday. If you choose to do that, you need to upgrade to a racing clutch - it's that simple; just use your head!

From my experience, by far the most common costs you will incur from owning the Evo are:
tires
brakes
oil changes

My car is completely stock with just over 7500 miles. I expect that the tires will last another 5000-7000 miles. The brake pads are at around 40% and I've changed the oil three times. So all told, within a year, I'm expecting to spend about $1100 on wear items. Like boomn29 said, unless you don't know how to drive standard or you race-launch your car a lot, it's unlikely you will have clutch/transmission issues. The car is by no means fragile and that tranny design has been in use for a long time. I personally don't drag-race or stoplight race as the car wasn't designed for that. Just remember that you pay to play, just decide what you want to pay for...

40 amp fuse, my EVO left me stranded. No big deal Autozone was across the road. I have had no issues with mine other than that, but a lot of people have been whining about clutches. They just arent meant to be dumped at 6000 rpm. Be halfway smart while driving it and it is a very solid car!!

use some common sense.... you don't have to drag the car at every traffic light...

Don't dump the clutch then and you'll be fine. There's plenty or torque and hp available to 'feel the power' w/o dumping the clutch. It's a freiking rush!!

On the JDM 7 and 8, brake pads and SS brake lines should be the first mods... I managed to boil my brake fluid and have the brake pedal fall all the way to the floor just from some enthusiastic street driving (less than 15 minutes).
