Evo 8 rumor
Evo 8 rumor

Well, some info on the Evolution 8 is coming to the surface.
Due for release in Q1 next year, the next Evo will be a yet another cracking drive (and hopefully ride for passengers).
The engine output will be limited to the 280ps "agreement" - BUT will be a strengthened unit ready for the post agreement power wars that are almost sure to come. So at least at launch, expect to see 280ps and 40kg/cm.
Other news will be the 6 speed box that seems destined for the GSR. For weight savings and competition use, the RS will get a super close ratio 5 speeder. Naturally ACD and AYC will both be re-tuned, and the front mask and aerodynamics will be heavily revised.
The interesting info that has come to light is that a 280ps++ model may be released as an Evolution 8.x model. Oh, and a lot of work is being done to make certain it will make the trip overseas more easily than the 7 - get ready!
Oh, and it seems that the Evolution 8 may debut at the Detroit Motor Show first, not in Japan - do I sense a renewed sense of focus on a more global product?

That's about the extent of what I've got (and can talk about) right now. It does look as if there will be a two-prong strategy for overseas - an official MMC Lancer Evolution for the under-30K crowd, and then the upmarket full-spec Ralliart Evolution 8 for the racers, with the stripper RS for the rallying crowd. The RS possibly could be below 30k, it's just that MMC/Ralliart doesn't conceive of that as a crowd-pleaser, given the thin sheet-metal, really close ratio 5-speed, etc. Best base for the modification route, though.

Was it just me but, while watching the WRC(World Rally Championship) on Speed Channel last Friday. The announcer mentioned that the next "evolution" was due to debut in next month's rally in Finland. Can anyone else confirm this?

I could be wrong but I don't think the Evo 8 WRC will debut until next year.
I don't know with you guys but I don't think the cars are the problem. I really think its the drivers
have right now.
Regarding the Evo 8 in a 6-speed tranny, I actually read that in an article. What I am not sure is if it's the Evo 8 of Japan or the one that will be launched for the US Market.
Hopefully, they produce both on a 6-speed tranny.

As for the WRC, I really don't think Mitsubishi drivers are the problem, although they may not be helping. At the end of last year Makinnen wasn't doing very well due to the car, or so the announcers led us to believe. I really respect Delacour. I'm undecided on Alister.

that's what I said a few months ago, let's all go to the NAIA Show in Detroit and have a natl. Lancer meet. I'll be there anyways tho, haven't missed it 2 years in a row since I was like 3 and 4.

Ralliart WRT always park their WRCs at my rally team's. He said the WRC Evo that I was looking at is the second evolution of the Evo 7 WRC. So there is an "evolution", but it's not the 8. I guess that's where the confusion comes from.
