Are you sure your first rear diff was damaged and it wasnt your transfercase all along?
The original rear diff is shot. I pulled out the drain plug and it was filled with shavings and a couple chunks of ring and pinion debris.

I stopped by the shop to take a look at the damage. He still had the drain pan under the t-case. There was a palm sized area of dark brown gear oil that looked pretty thick, and a few small chunks in it as well. I found several used transfer cases on ebay, probably going with one of them. I think I should I grab an ACD pump as well just to be safe.

It's a shop that works on everything. There are no Evo/AWD shops within a several hour drive of where I live as far as I know.

Yeah, it sucks when things break... I think I've got a replacement lined up though, just waiting to hear back from the seller.

Firefighting and EMS are my adrenaline fix, lol. Some people sky dive... I run into burning buildings, pull people out of car wrecks, and try to keep them alive. Fun times

Got a good deal on a used t-case, should have it next week. Then once that's in I'll be putting the new wheels and tires on, doing some wiring for the blue lights, cluster, and a-pillar gauges, and detailing the crap out of it for a car show next month.

Well since the rear end I got in last week already had the mounts on it, I decided to put in some Torque Solution urethane bushings in the spare mounts I now have. I sanded them down, cleaned them up, and went to cut out the old mounts with a saws-all.

Didn't work to well, the saws-all had a hard time cutting through the rubber. So I switched to a hack saw, but it didn't fair very well either. So I said F it, I'm bringing out the big guns!

Torched out the old ones, just need to make a couple cuts on the outer rings to knock them out. I also put on a few good coats of black Rustolium to keep them nice.

I don't think you have to drive it around and then check the TC case again. The case only takes less than a quart of Diaqueen. Just make sure to pump it in slow then button it up.

I change mine every 10k, probably overkill but there is a lot of stress in there.

No need to do the drive around and refill. The car just needs to be level.

I'll pop open the rear end this weekend and snap some pics. The transfer case won't be out of the car till this coming Friday most likely, as the replacement will be coming in that Thursday.

nice, that sounds good. not trying to hijack the thread but what type of driving and or problems causes the drivetrain parts to create metal shavings like the ones you described? does it only happen if the fluid level is low?
