Do you currently have metal shavings in any of your fluids? If so, where and how much?
no i ask because im changing my fluids soon and i want to take a look to make sure everything is going smooth, i dont hear any noises or anything from the rear unless i shift wrong bc my bushings lol. i just hope nothing is wrong bc i just bought the car in march and was wondering if some stalls could maybe chew up the gears or something. this was my first stick car and its 6puck but ive gotten used to it by now

From what you described you should be fine. A stall here and there shouldn't hurt anything. It's a little rough on the drivetrain, but no where near as bad as launching it. The drain plugs are magnetic, so you should be able to easily see any shavings that might be present.
It sounds like it was a transfer case all along and never the rear differential. You very well may have two good rear differentials now and one bad transfer case. I have yet to see one rear differential break on an evo

From the chunk of ring that fell out and the glob of shavings that were on the drain plug when I removed it, I'm fairly certian the rear end took a crap. I'll post some pictures of the carnage when I get home this evening and pull off the end cap.
The transfer case probably locked up power to the rear wheels and prevented the driveshaft from spinning. if this happened while the car was moving then either your rear tires would lock up or you would blow your rear differential

Judging by how all the teeth on the ring gear are stripped fairly uniformly I would say you are right. The driveshaft stopped turning but the rear wheels were still in motion grinding down the ring and breaking pieces off from being forced across the pinion that wasn't moving.
