Patch radiator? Or not.

So my radiator is leaking from the core. When on it shoots out like a squirt gun onto the turbo. The hole is tiny and I'm just wondering if I could get it patched by a shop? Is it recommendedm? Or should I just go for a new one? Again the hole isn't big at all.

My GSX is running a Mishimoto 3 row radiator that had the fins damaged, however I never used it until I had it repaired by a radiator repair shop but I'm positive the damage was enough to cause leakage. If yours is a tiny hole then certainly it can be saved.

Is it broken in the aluminum part or the plastic type part?
Either way, I would not risk any future leaks or headaches, find a cheap used core in good condition ( fs forums, ebay, etc ) and replace, that's what I would do.

if it is in fact a small hole, and easy to see/get to, you can patch it as a temp fix. Mine lasted awhile and then I ordered a new one and threw that in once I got it. I used water weld by jb weld and it worked fine.

If its one of the tubes leaking in the core (which is my guess given your description) it's a very simple fix for a radiator shop or you can do it yourself. A small pair of needle nose pliers can be used to pinch the hole/tube shut. One tube isn't going to hurt the performance of the radiator a noticable ammount at all.

Radiator shops can be kind've hard to find anymore as people like to replace parts rather than fix them and save a little cash. Just stay away from the stopleak crap, it's like cancer for your cooling system.

i used a patch kit from pepboys about 7,000 miles ago. just use another 2 inches of the putty stuff and make sure u really get it inside the fins to stick well. im gonna replace mine soon with a mishismoto evo 6 rad that has a straight shot to the coolant pickup.

You can go old school as a temp fix and just crack an egg in there. It does actually work

The radiator on my IX got punctured during a clutch job, the shop doing the clutch install had a local radiator repair shop fix it and I never had an issue with it.

I had this issue with a Koyo radiator in my old turbo Nissan and I used JB Water Weld to patch it... It worked great for the few years I had the car. No issues!

...Also, I can see the previous owner of my current Evo had the same problem and patched it with the same thing HAHA. Again, I've had my Evo for 2.5Yrs, no issues with it letting go!

Take it to a rad shop and have it fixed right. They can leak test it also.

The cooling systems on these cars are very important. I would just spend the little amount it would actually cost and get a new radiator or a solid used one. I would hate to see something bad happen for a simple little fix gone wrong. Best of luck
