Sub zero temps finally take their toll...
So yesterday I noticed that the passenger side of my font bumper was sagging a little. A space had opened up where it connects to the side fender, and upon examination it looked like a grommet that held it in place had ripped out, the plastic around it cracked. Crap. I'm pretty **** about my car, and I definitely would remember scraping it on a parking barrier or hitting something. Bring it into my dealership to ask the guys their opinion and they throw it up on a lift to take a look: Low and behold the black plastic piece under the car that acts as an air dam is shattered and had a massive hole in it. Double Crap. The plastic must have been so cold that whatever I hit shattered it without me even feeling a hint of impact. Totally sucks, cause obviously its my fault, but come on! This is the kind of plastic thats designed to take very big hits and brush them off... Unless its freaking -35degrees out! I must have barely touched whatever it was that blasted a ozone sized hole in it, otherwise you would think I would have felt it. Not to mention they salt the holy living bajeebus out of the roads up here, so for quite some time after every snow your washing salt off the car relentlessly. I know, I know, somebody better call me the waaambulance.
So I've ordered an new air dam section. But to put a happy spin on this I'll share with ya what I learned today. Not that we needed more proof, but we're really driving a absolutely kick *** car: If you look under the car, right under where the intercooler lives, you'll see a couple black plastic pieces that look like they exist only to act as a barrier to protect goodies in the underside of the engine bay. The mechanic who was helping me out today told me that actually this piece of plastic is serving an aerodynamics purpose. Ends up that its job is to act as an air dam to prevent higher current from sweeping all the air under the car. It makes just enough of a buffer to keep more air directed towards the intercooler. Pretty cool. Maybe most of you knew this, but its new to me, and it makes me love me car even more.
Anyway, sorry to waste bandwidth with whining. Its just most of my coworkers already think I'm a freak show about the car. They just don't get it. You do. And thats why EvoM is good.

Where do you live and what kind temperatures have been normal? I'll be moving up to New Haven, CT next year for college, and it's pretty cold there (especially since i'm a Dallas boy.) Hopefully i won't have these problems when i can actually bring the evo up there....
yup i think the cold weather is making my door fall off LOL. Its like a constant 15 degrees in the afternoon and below zero at night for the most part. I dont think any car was made for this weather LOL. I feel ur pain. My car is so filthly LOL.
