Anyway, I wouldn't buy from that dealer. Looks like they were trying to rip you off. You should be able to buy any '03 for under 31K out the door these days. Take your business elsewhere, then drive back to the first dealer in your new Evo and tell them to kiss your a$$.

It's a myth that dealers would prefer cash. They make tons of money off the financing, so they're not really that motivated to cut prices if you won't finance.

That way they will be more willing to drop the price down, figuring that they will make it up on
the finance "kickback".
You usually don't have to make that first payment for at least a month, if not more.
Then, after you have taken delivery of the car, walk into ( or call ) the financing institution that is holding the loan,
ask for the closeout price, and pay it off.

Just make sure the loan does not have any pre-payment penalties, or you may be paying far more than you anticipate.

There are several ppl on the forum that are selling their evos for a good price. I say you get a used one and save yourself alot of money. 35K is bs..I got mine 5 months ago and I paid 32K out the door. Alot of ppl got it 29K even. A friend of mine got his for 29K about 2 months ago. If I were you, I go for a used one. You are taking a risk of buying a used one, but such is life. Goodluck with your future toy. Peace...
take a drive down 101 to salinas. I got my EVO @ invoice. ~32k out the door. Didn't have to haggle that much if at all.

Have you gone on something like edmonds.com and used their contact a dealer system? Or go through mitsu's website and contact dealers directly. Email them and tell them you are looking for a no haggle price and are ready to buy. See what you get back in emails and then call the lowest two by telephone and discuss it and confirm it. You should be able to walk in at a preset appt. time and within about 15 minutes be sitting in front of the business manager to sign off all your paperwork at a prearranged price. Good luck with your purchase.
