Blowing smoke burning oil need input
Not sure which section to post this in but figured this is a good place to start.I have a evo 9 with a 2.4L Longrod 4g64. It was just built the machine shop did all the work on the block and I did the assembly myself. They also did a lot of work on the head such as fix the damage from a previous engine faliure. They replaced a couple valves and guides. When i fired up the motor and drove it for the first time it smoked a little bit but got way worse in about 20 miles. Smokes like crazy. The first though I had is the turbo so I took the 35 R off and put a stock one on...same thing. I noticed there was a lot of oil deposit on top of the exhaust valves and in the turbo manifold. When I run the car and then shut it off and pull the plugs there is a oil deposit on top of the pistons. The plugs foul very quickly and it starts missfiring. The compression is good and Im about to do a leakdown but the compression was good so that leads me to belive its the head. Like they pressed the valve guides wrong or something and the oil is working its way down the valve stems and burning off the top of the valve and some of it is making its way down on the top of the pistons. I noticed the deposit on the pistons is fresh oil but the tops of the valves in the exhaust ports the oil is burnt. Any helpfull insight woukld be greatly appreciated thanks
By the way I called the machine shop and the guy instantly got defensive and told me it was the turbo. I explained to him that I replaced it and there was no change and he told me to drive it more and it will burn off the excess oil. I know it will not as it keeps burning new oil and its a terrible idea to drive a car in that condition
what pistons are you using? I had this same thing happen. If your wrist pin sets too high on the piston (into the oil ring) there is an extra ring needed. It is the oil ring rail support ring. If this was not installed it will smoke like a diesel.
