What Air filter or Intake is best for the $$$ ??

Well the 15,000 mile service is upon me..

Believe it or not, it really doesn't entail more than what you regularly do to the evo anyways..(oil, filter, rotate, etc)

But it does require an air filter replacement so I am wondering..

Is now the right time to get the K and N drop in or another one like the Busher or similar??

I don't want to spend a lot of $$ so your suggestions would help..

Thanks!!

FWIW I have an Apex'i filter element, and it's no different than stock butt-dyno wise. But I got it cheap so it is a better alternative than stock replacement I suppose...

Doesn't K&N come with oiled element which may foul the MAF sensor over time? Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Buschur open element filter is loud and lets you hear the BOV, if that's what you're looking for. I have one on my ride and, while there is no HP improvement' it does sound nice .

I have the K&N and if you let it sit like it says in the cleaning kit you will not have any problem with the MAF sensor. I have always had a K&N and never have I or anyone else I have known had a problem with it. I know Ultimate Racing includes them in there upgrades as well as Vishnu I think. Either way if you go with any of these style filter's without A/F adjustment you will run richer A/F ratios it has been tested and can be felt with you butt dyno also. Yeah it make a nice sound but is it worth the low rpm loss in power?

And in all honesty... you REALLY should change, or have changed your tranny/diff/transfer case fluids by or at 15,000 miles.

I'd strongly recommend going with some sort of synthetic fluid, like Redline, or something.

Hi,

I have K&N drop in and like it. I was a little worried since I think a K&N fouled the MAF on my Audi A4. However, it was my fault since it was overoiled.

This time, I just wiped it with a clean cloth to remove any excess oil before installing (there wasn't any). If you wash it, don't go crazy when you reoil it, and you should be all set. Others have reported that it sags from boost over time, I've checked mine and it's fine (this is with ~20 psi on MBC over several months). Butt dyno noticed slightly better throttle response and smoothness. No dyno test though.

Empirically, the noise from the BOV is more evident, and I definitely think it flows a little better than stock, just by comparing them side by side. Per Shiv, stock airbox is fine upto >300 WHP I think, before it becomes much of a restriction. I decided to get the maintainable filter and be leave it at that, since it seems a cone filter may require tweaking to work correctly.

Take care,

FB
