from reading your post and your questions, you have still have some reading to do. Just take your car to a tuner

We all have 'some' reading to do but thanks for the suggestion. I guess I'll just keep reading.

yup keep reading and only make changes that you feel ok with. make SMALL SMALL changes and learn to look, hear, and see how your car will react to the changes. It all comes with time and a lot of research and trial and error

+1 not trying to be a jerk or anything man but to save you alot of headache i would suggest going to a tuner or at least talking with one from personal experiences i no joke watched my buddy grenade his fully built motor because he was messing with tuning and had no idea how and made one wrong change and BOOM i would love to tune my car to but until i read enough on it and learn fully how to do it i have to pay someone to to it for me but good luck man

I think the point is , if your gonna learn to tune then start at step one . You really need to scale the maf and check the short and long term fuel trims, that's why people say read sum more . With those all set , it's pretty easy to dial the afr in and it'll be safer . Good luck

Honestly, if I were in your situation I would do more research on tuning before trying it on your own car. I would spend time reading and asking questions in the tuning forum for a while still.

That's what's going on now. I've redone my timing map and want to go ahead and implement it. I still haven't touched the AFRs; they are factory. I noticed some crazy entries in the timing map when I first pulled it up. At 1000 RPM at the lowest cell it showed 69! WTF? And a big block of cells around there were set at 16 mostly in the bottom left of the map.

He grenaded his engine? What was he tuning? I don't think I'm going to blow up my engine with a stock RS MIVEC map and adjusting the timing. I don't think I need to take it to a tuner for that. I think the grenade happens when people pop their pills and crank boost while suffocating with closed WGs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not a boost-a-holic. I'm not looking to have 30+psi or something out of control like that on a stock engine. I am enjoying the great concern being expressed. I love my car too I will NOT do something to this freakin car without thoroughly bugging the hell out of one of you; trust me.

I like how the pro tuners are silent. I understand they have to make a buck. I'm going to go that route when I get my little Tomei turbo. I just don't think timing, mivec, and basic AFR stuff is going to blow us up. And remember I haven't done a thing to the AFRs yet. Nothing. When I do I'm going to lean them out to 11ish.

Actually yes adjusting the timing incorrectly could cause significant damage to your motor.

Are you talking about knock? I was planning on just logging low rpm and then going over to higher rpm in search for knock. From what I know, you retard timing to pull knock. That's the current method I'm using. Also, I have gleaned that knock can show up if you run too lean and the answer for that is to rich it all up a bit. Is that flawed?

Depending on timing and other variables, you can run as high as 11:9 safely. Im in the low 11's and thats just fine with me.

From what you see that I'm trying to do is my method looking too dangerous or flawed to move forward.

Running to rich can cause knock as well.
