Mitsubishi Evolution ad from 2003
Found a neat little video on Jalopnik from 2003, when Mitsubishi actually loved performance. They actually claim they started a religion. Wonder what happened to that religion? BTW, this is not about the Evo XI hybrid!

Love that commercial. Everyone ragged on the X because they dropped the 4G and added a couple hundred pounds. That turned out great so I have a cautious faith that mitsu will make a great car. I'll pick one up for the wife
Apparently, you haven't seen any Audi TDI race cars in action.
You are kidding, right? I have been following F1 and Sports Car Racing since 1966. I watched all 24 hours of this years LeMans when Audi had both the E-tron and Ultra Audis. Yes, I am familiar with diesels. This year Audi used a flywheel similar to the Porsche GT3 hybrid. But, Audi had been using a V12 diesel and then went to a V6 this year due to new rules. I will not be surprised at all if the Evo XI performs well. However, remember it will only be a 1.6 diesel with two electric motors, so it will hardly be an Audi R18 E-tron. And, the next Lancer will be bigger and heavier than the current one. So, I am waiting hopefully for the next Evo to still be a good performer. Silly boy...
Mitsubishi has always been at the forefront of technology in cars. They get ragged on hard by everybody for being cheap, unreliable, and crappy company, but they are pioneers every step of the way. From performance turbocharging, torque vectoring all wheel drive systems, direct injection (first commercial application), things like active aero and hard top convertible frames (3000GT). Even with electric cars they beat the Leaf to market in many regions with the iMiev which has more technology then the Leaf for a cheaper price.
I wouldn't count them out yet. If they want to build a car with the Evo badge and a hybrid diesel engine, I doubt they will under-deliver.

+1. Agree. Turbo diesels are fun and make lots of torque. I just hope the engine is connected to the wheels through a transmission and the electrics are more like the KERs system in F1.
I hope it's not heavy that's what concerns me the most.

Being one who was skeptical of the changes that came with the X, and being impressed and a true believer in the X's - I am openly embracing the idea of a diesel hybrid. Mitsu has always done well with making improvements in their Evo platform. Though it will be very different from the current platform, i think Mitsu will impress us with another amazing machine. I am anxious to see what kind of MPGs the car gets while remaining in the running for still being one of the best performance cars under $80k. I may pick one up as a daily if mileage is good, performance is up to par, and aesthetics are still nice and true to the Evo platform.

noob question here, haven't researched much. But do we know if its going to be a true hybrid, you know diesel at high speed and electric in the city; or a diesel generator always powering two electric motors? Because if the second is the case, this could potentially be an extremely exciting car, torque wise. If not though, I have my doubts.
