Sup guys,

I just started browsing this and the nasoic.com (subaru) forums recently because I'm in the market for a new car. I recently crashed my 2000 Celica GTS (about 1500 damage) and now I'm feeling like I need a new car soon.. As soon as my car is all fixed I'm gonna trade it in for either an EVO or an STi. I'm in the process of selling all of my mods on my car except for my stereo and dvd system which I'll transfer to my new car. I spent over 10K on my celica (appearance, engine, suspension and stereo) and I'm pretty much tired of it. Here's how it looked before the accident:

I'm pretty torn, but I'm actually leaning towards the EVO. I like the look of the EVO much better and price is a tad better too. About 90% of my friends who know I'm in the market for either an EVO or STi tell me to get an STi. I know someone who works at the company next to mine and he has an STi. He's gonna let me test drive it soon.

Anyway, what advice can you give someone looking for an EVO? I heard they're going for around invoice now but some dealers are being ****** about it and saying that they only sell at MSRP. Duarte Mitsu (in so cal) wouldn't even let me test drive one because they said they don't test drive any Evos to keep the miles off them. =/

What kind of price should I aim for, and if you know any good dealers in the Southern Cali area that would be good, especially one that would let me test drive one.

I'm 24 years old, turning 25 in March. I would think that the salesmen would take me seriously but maybe I still look too young.

If you test drive it, and like it, tell the salesman you will buy it for invoice. No bs, no haggling, just invoice, and the deal is done. If they say no, just give them your number, and walk out. You will get a call the next day.

That'd be pretty correct.

Same thing, almost, happened to me when purchasing mine. They tried to charge me a good 1-2k above sticker. It was their last Evo on the lot, too. I said, "What kind of price are you trying to give me here?" Salesman said, "These cars are a rarity and a work of art". All i said after that was, "Tell you what, you can have my number, call me if you can come up with a better deal, but i'm going to go see how many evo's the other dealer across town has". I think I got maybe 2-3 blocks from the dealer and I got a call saying they can give it to me for 28 or 29

Hey Chiz nice to see you made it over from newcelica.org. Sorry to hear about your Celica, when I look at it, it reminds me of the one that I used to own. If I lived in Cali I would be more then willing to help you out but I'm sure someone from this site can. I hope everything works out for you.

Thanks for the responses guys. I tried to go into other dealers like Nissan today to test drive a 350Z just to see how the competition is and they wouldn't give me the time of day. Seems like no dealer wants to let me test drive anything. Sucks.

Grifter, I recognize your screen name from nc.org but i dont think you post there anymore. I see Jotan82 on here too..

Anyway, I told my mom today that I was gonna trade in my Celica and she was like... why do you want to buy a Mitsubishi, they're no good. She told me to buy a Lexus cuz she likes Lexus. I'm like nah, I dont want a Lexus unless its the IS430 which doesn't come out until next year or so. Then she said, "take my car (2003 Infinity I35 w/ Navigation), I want to buy a Lexus SUV."

So there you have it. I can just not make any payments and have my mom's I35, which is a really really nice car, but doesn't do anything for me in terms of satisfying my need for speed, OR I can say no, and buy an Evo and spend about $400/month for the next 5 years.

Pretty tough decision huh? Obviously, the prudent choice would be to just take my mom's I35. Its not a crappy car by any means. Its pretty luxurious with its full leather interior and Bose system and Navigation, but its so opposite of what I'm all about. But I can look at it this way. If I don't buy the EVO and take my mom's car instead, I will have extra money that would've went towards car payments.

I would be able to afford a Yamaha R6, my dream sportbike!

Take the free car!!!!!! The evo is great, but if someone came up to me before I bought mine and said, "you can buy an evo, or I can give you this i35 for free", I don't think I would have bought the evo.

Dude, if it's not what you want, you won't really be happy. Save yourself the frustration and get the car that you want, an Evo!

I was going to buy a used WRX back when I couldn't afford an Evo. But something told me I should hold out. In the end, I believe I made the right choice.

My mom also owns an I35 w/navi. Nice car, basically a maxima dressed up. If you take her car, not have payments, high insurance, modding money, time lost on these boards, you will save over $34,000+ by the time you're 30 years old. Not bad. Plus you're driving a car most people can never afford anyway. And to get $400 payments, you need a lot down. Probably 10,000 down.
I'd keep the Celica. Not outdated yet, already modded, looks real good, more fun to drive than the I35. Paid off?

Chiggy your on here? Sweet, Jotan is on here too. Lets welcome a legednd from Newcelica.org here! Uh, wait, you crashed the celica. If you want the car, get it. I would go through with the Evo becuase it is a driver's car and also I'm not into luxery. Once again, welcomes to the boards here.

hi I was from newcelica.org too for like a long time. I met u before in person Charles... then I got banned from nc.org when they became ***** and started banning people for having a sense of humor... anyways... I still have my 2001 celica, I also have a 2004 RX-8 and the RX-8 is having many problems so I am leaning toward the Evolution cuz I want to kick *** on the streets. 0WN all the **** mobiles! muhahaha JDM power! plus its turbo!!! wooo wooooo

I dont know why u think since ur 24 that they arent going to take u seriously. I just pull up in my car and say hey i want an evo, and I will only take $200 over invoice, take it or leave it, i will just go to another dealership. Saying that, you arent wasting anyone's time... so simply put, you are offering them business and they can take it of leave it, in SoCal there is a bunch of evos just sitting on the lots and need buyers... tell them how it is, and if they are being asses, skip on their commission and give another dealership the biz.

honestly, no one is going to take you seriously because of your age. You will not be able to test drive one, you will not be able to walk 5 feet from one, you will get to do nothing.

I went to the dealer, and they laughed at me. I told them that they would lose a sale if i didnt get to drive the car. With the answer still being no, i walked away-something about the service manager not wanting people driving it. I began to walk away and mutter ****, and then i remembered the greatest tool when getting what you want- MONEY.

I dipped into my pocket, and pulled out a cool $10K...CASH. I told the guy that i was not leaving without driving the car.

Moral of the story, i get what i want and so should you. Get a beater and sell the Celica. Sell all your mods. Have tons of cash in your pocket. Drive to the dealership in your beater car that can barely make it off the lot, and try to drive the car. When they say no, take out lots of money, drive the car, and go buy one the next day from another dealership...

Having fun is fun.

ah yes, the obligatory pic...
