I bought my last 2 cars out of state in NJ.

PA shipped my tags to dealers and I picked them up. Not an option if you are buying many states away I guess

What are your guys thoughts about a rebuilt/salvage (what are the differences?) title evo? There is a pretty decent looking one with a jdm rear bumper evo 9 gsr for sale on Craigslist and he wants 16,800 for it.

Thoughts about the car and price?

If I were to get it I would do a car fax on it and bring it to slow motion motorsports or Ips to get a full check up on the car and engine before I buy it.

Also do you believe the egos value could go down even more if I build the car and maybe want to resell it in 3-4 years?

hey man , that 1st car you wanted (mr) is way to much man, your better off waiting for the right one in private sale... plus the person im sure will help with dmv fees, i love my evo 8, but its a pain in the *** to DD! In short get the X if you want dd/performance.. personally when i see a X i think it looks MEAN! they also sound nice.. if you drive a lot the whole RAW feeling gets old real fast. just my opinion with my personal opinion..
Good luck

That price is way too high for the car....and especially after reading what happen to the motor and some non-evo tech guy trying to piece it back together is scary. I wouldn't even touch that for $20k. Look elsewhere. There are many out there and with a better history.

the price is now 26,500 for the car, I think that is about kelly blue book good condition. The only issue i see is that it has been modded a lot and why a person would trade it in to a dealership is kinda sketchy, if someone like me were to sell my modded evo to anyone it would be to a person looking for an already modded evo. Here's why; although your never going to get back what you put into the car, if and when you have recites and all documentations of everything thats been done to the car it at least shows that you(the seller) are showing attention to detail, age of the person also matters greatly. So i bought my evo MR back in 2009 for 24k and it had 26,XXX miles on it, I bought it from a personal seller who was nearly 50 years old, it only had an exhaust and an intake system. It was a win win situation. If that car you looked at was being sold by the person who did all the work then I'd say it looks like a decent deal. good luck and happy hunting, not to many evo's un-modded anymore, if you find one jump on it.

You obviously didn't read the thread did you. That car was filled up with 87 fuel and blown up and the dealer is "fixing" it and selling it for an outrageous price now.

I think the difference between the rebuilt and salvage is that the rebuilt has already passed state inspection and can be titled again. Salvage still has to be fixed and then off to inspection. I could be wrong though. My advise with that posted car is to get the carfax FIRST then go look at it. It has been on craigslist for awhile now and like I have said before a good evo doesnt last long. If you go and look at it see if the owner has any proof of who fixed the car. I know in Ohio anybody can fix the car with ebay parts and pass an inspection. The person just has to show where they got all there parts. So again good luck and you will find the right one. I jumped on the first one i found, granted i only paid $10,500 for mine but im sinking money in it left and right. I would expand your search to out of state and just eat the travel expense and rent a uhaul and tow it back.

I believe you're correct on the rebuilt vs. salvage title. Personally I wouldn't touch a car with a rebuilt title. It makes resale difficult. That said, if you're going to build the car into a track monster or something, and can get it for the right price, it might be OK. $10,500 sounds reasonable, $16K+ does not.

The price is downright unreasonable. Hell cars were bought new 6 yrs ago for a couple grand more.

Nothing cheap about it. If you like to throw money away go for it. This is a community and we are trying to help potential buyers (not in the know) from throwing away their money

i understand, and totally agree. i would not touch that evo and i got great deals on all of my evo's. its just..the seller always ends up selling it to some sucker in the end so i just dont see the point in an army of evom members flaming the OP. Just one or two comments warning would be good, but i get you. Your trying to precaution un-knowing buyers that are members thats understandable

I agree, it really depends on what the OP want the car for and if money really isnt a factor then just buy the one that you like and seems to be a solid car. I jumped on mine and then found some unforeseen problems. With that being said I still got an evo at a cheap price leaving me more money to mod it the way I want to with all new parts of my choice. To each their own on this but for me im ok with it. I had the intent when I bought the car to do a 2.3l swap and turbo plus other mods. Im in the process of fixing and replacing the important things and then will do the fun stuff when I finally decide on what turbo I want and when I want to spend the money.
