Yes they will it just depends on how you document it. Bring it in as a show or race car. Thats how people have zonda's here, and even drive them up to 1000 miles I think it is.

From the best of my understanding from my years of experience hanging around US forum,
1.)To be 100% legal(Federally Legal),your car have to be 20 years old to exempt for crash test and if i am correct,25 years old for EPA exemption
2.)Do like what the TME guy over, ship over to US as race car and don't register it on the road
3.)Bring over the car as parts, buy an USDM mirage shell and swap everything over(Most practical and most legal way to do it)

Mornin' chaps,
what is EPA?,if i can import the car at 20 yrs old that isn't too far away
If i have to swap it all into a mirage what bodyshell parts are different,i read on someones conversion thread that it's the rear floor and rear suspension turrets,is there any more?
I served my apprenticeship as a commercial vehicle body builder so i don't have a problem taking panels from one shell and fitting them in another
but if i convert a mirage it would be useful to have the two cars sitting side by side
will an awd turbo mirage be 100% legal?
Sorry about all the questions but i really want to keep an evo iv rather than an viii or ix

Yes, you can just transplant everything (AWD, turrets, trunk floor pan, etc) and it would still make it legal in most states.

You would only have to go through EPA, which is emission testing. The problem is that to pass that, they will try to connect with your ECU, and it might not work since it is from another country.... but I do not know about that.

But do not worry, there are ways around that

A very easy but illegal thing to do is. Buy the title for a mirage in the states that totalled. Use that registration for the 4.

I've seen plenty of real evo 4s for sale in cali and they almost all have iffy registrations at best.

Thanks for the replies chaps,
sorry i havn't got back to you but i only got back on dry land yesterday.
If i bring my evo to the USA it will have to be 100% legal,i have sunk too much money into it to have it crushed!!!!
Is there anyone on here who knows how much i will have to break my car down to import it as parts?
I dont care if it takes me a couple of years to build it into a mirage,i'm not leaving this car behind

Register it as a '95 Mirage and don't worry about OBDII, rarely will anyone in authority know or care what it is as long as you don't try to sell it.

I was just about to say this, get a pre 96 vin / title if you can if it's 96 newer you will have problems with emissions out the ***. 95 or older and all you have to deal with is a safety inspection. Very important.

Very interesting! I am stationed in Japan at the moment and I bought a very nice little IV 2 years ago for $1500! I'll probably go the mirage swap route...
