ACD pump - protection from the elements
ACD pump - protection from the elements
So having driven my Evo through 6 Michigan winters, I recently had my ACD pump fail. I tried rebuilding it with the kit from ACDtuning.com, but unfortunately my pump was so terribly corroded that I couldn't get it apart. Then I broke the housing in the process
So I had to pony up and buy a new ACD pump from the dealer. When I was putting the new one on, I kept thinking I don't want to have to buy another one ever again, and was researching ways of protecting this thing from the elements.
Clearly the pump is going to get blasted with water and road salt in its current location, and we all know it is not robust against water intrusion and corrosion, that's for sure.
So when I had my bumper off, I decided to make a cover to go over the grill - the pump is fairly well covered by the undertray and the inner fender, but wide open to the front of the car.
The pump doesn't come on often, so I know heat is not an issue (the pump is in the back of the car on Evos with AYC), so I wasn't worried about this. All In all, I just cut some textured plastic I had laying around, bought two plastic christmas tree clips, and two push nuts to secure the panel to the grill.
It actually looks less goofy than I thought, and it ought to keep 95% of the water and salt off my expensive pump. Probably $6 in parts, and about an hour worth of work.
Just thought I'd share this with the Evo community, as I didn't seem to find any better solutions
