Any advice for a headliner squeak/snapping sound?

My car has one flaw. I have no qualms that it is not a BMW/Lexus and it is going to squeak and rattle. I am fine with that. However, my headliner is going above and beyond to annoy me. Over anything but the smoothest pavement, it makes a "snapping" sound. If I press up by the area between the visor and the A-pillar cover, it stops. I pulled it down far enough a few weeks back to determine a piece of supporting foam had come unglued from the room (I presume?) and I figured that's what I was hearing, the hard foam bouncing off the roof and headliner. Alas, that didn't do the trick and it's actually gotten worse.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Anyone have any creative ideas on how to fix it? I can pull and push on the area of the headliner where it intersects with the roof and the windshield to duplicate the sound, but I have no clue how to secure it any better than it is.

Make no mistake, I will deal with it if I must. Everything else about the car far outweighs a creaky headliner but if I can fix it - gravy. Many thanks for any ideas!

There's actually a recall for it, to install a piece of felt between the a pillar joints
