5 speed Shifter Cable Issue

I'm looking for some help as I'm running out of ideas. I recently rebuilt my motor, and reinstall everything. One of the problmes I'm running into is the gear selection mechanism on the transmisson where the cables attach. I've done 3 clutch jobs on my car before and never had this problem. Basically, the white plastic piece (pic below) doesn't sit flush into the slot, and pops out when I pull the shifter toward 1st/2nd gear slots.

You can see here form Shep, the piece sits high and flush.

Figured it out with the help of Tim from Jack Transmissions. The arm wasn't bent, but the bracket where the arm mounts to was. I'm not sure how it happened, but it's fixed temporarily until the new bracket comes in.
